"We'll don't you look happy." Jay laughed at me as I entered his room.

I glared at him, "It's because I'm happy."

"Glad to hear that."

I just came back from a date with Lumi and I feel like I'm on cloud 9. Insane how she makes me feel, it's been years but I still feel so much whenever I'm with her.

As Jay and I were playing video games, I suddenly felt a jolt in my chest. I released my grip from the controller and clutched my chest.

The sudden jolt intensified leaving me breathless. It was as if something is restricting my airway.

"Dude, what are you—" Jay looked back at me and his eyes widen.

"Sunghoon!"

"Ischemic Heart Disease."

As soon as the doctor gave me a diagnosis, my stomach dropped.

I looked at Jay who was as startled as me.

"How could he have that? He's the healthiest person I know, Dr. Kim." Jay defensively said.

"Well, health is a major factor but so is genetics." He looked at both of us. "Do you know any of your family who has been diagnosed with any heart disease or anything at all?"

I looked at Jay. I was sure from the look he gave me, he was thinking about the same thing as I am.

Days passed and Jay came back into my room with papers in his hands.

His face is tired and almost as lifeless as mine. "I looked for your dad. He passed away a year after he left."

"And?" I looked at him nervously.

"We were right," he gave me the papers he had. "Ischemic Heart Disease, exactly like yours."

I looked at the documents and I broke down. My heart felt even more restricted than it already is with all the tubes taped up to me.

"There's a high risk, but there's still a lot we can do to prevent any major happenings. You just need to be cooperative with every treatment and surgery."

Jay spoke instead of me. I looked at him and he looks desperate.

I felt sorry for him, that he had to take care of me. But I had no one else but him and Lumi.

"Please, do everything you can, Dr. Kim." I could hear helplessness from Jay.

"We'll do our best." Dr. Kim bowed leaving us without any assurance of what might happen next.

"Jay, I can't die. I can't leave you, I can't leave Lumi." I mumbled as we both were left with an uncomfortable and eerie silence.

He fumbled with his fingers looking guilty, "Sunghoon, don't you think we should tell her?"

"She's already working towards her dreams. You know how much this means to her. I can't let her drop everything for me."

I remembered all the sleepless nights Lumi had just to get to where she is right now. If she knew, I know she'd drop everything and I can't let her do that.

"I'll get better, Jay. After all this, I'll come back and explain everything to her. But now I just need you to be there for her, please." I assured him though there was always the fear that I might not be able to do so.
