"You ready?"
Jay entered my room abruptly without permission. I glared at him but he simply scoffed and rolled his eyes at me.
"Is that what you're going to wear?" He looked at me with judging eyes. I looked down at my outfit, it was a simple outfit so I didn't know why Jay was giving a fuss about it.
"Dude, this is already an upgrade from what I looked like in high school. Stop bugging me, we're just going to see our friends." I rolled my eyes at him playfully.
He made his way to my closet so I sat down on my bed waiting for the outfit that was approved by Jay. "Still, how could you get a boyfriend with that style."
"First of all, I am not looking for a boyfriend." I rolled my eyes at him, "And second of all, I had a boyfriend even when I didn't even know how to style myself, alright?"
Jay smiled at the fact that I mentioned the past. I guess it meant that I was starting to be open with those types of conversations.
"Yeah, I remembered how crazy he was for you." He looked at me meaningfully. A tug came to my heart when I remembered those memories. Jay noticed that I was getting sentimental so he started to lighten the mood.
"I don't get why though, I mean you looked like a mess that time." He said as he threw his choice of outfits at me.
I wore his chosen emerald green satin cropped top with the off-shoulder long puffed sleeves. It was paired with black wide-legged pants and black boots.
"There, now, you look like a friend of mine." Jay smiled teasingly and he wrapped his arm around my shoulders. I glared at his statement but kept quiet as he escorted me out of my house and to his car.
"You look excited," Jay commented as he saw me wiggling in my seat looking out the window if we're near the bar yet.
"Shut up! Of course, I'm excited. It's been a while since I saw them." I rolled my eyes at him ignoring his judging glare.
He laughed at my remark, "You sure do miss them, huh?"
"Spent the best years of my life with these people, Jay. I wanna relive it even just for a while." I looked at him as I reminisce.
He smiled back and continued to focus on driving.
"Lumi!" I heard a high-pitched voice call me as soon as we entered the bar.
"Even with the loud music, you can hear Inna's voice." Jay teased as he held my waist guiding me through the crowd.
Inna immediately slapped his arm, "Shut up, Jongseong."
I pulled the girl into a hug as we reached the table Jay reserved for us.
"Damn, Lumi. You look hot!" He commented as she dropped her gaze onto my outfit.
"I'm the one responsible for that, thank you very much." Jay approached us as he gave me a drink he got from the bartender.
"I kinda knew, I mean Lumi is not stylish enough to pick that," Inna said as she sipped from her martini.
I looked at her offended but she shrugged me off and pulled me to sit on the couch. I looked around and saw that there were a lot of familiar faces.
"Jay, I thought it was only going to be our group of friends," I whispered to him.
"Lumi, did you forget that Jake is literally Mr. Friendly back in high school? These are his friends." He laughed.
Inna joined the conversation, "Which is basically everyone in high school." She laughed.
As the night deepened, I was left alone on the couch. The music was blaring and everyone was having fun getting reacquainted with each other.
Jay was nowhere in sight and Inna left early as she had work the next day.
I was never really one to enjoy the club scene but my friendship with Jay brought me out of my shell from time to time.
I finished my glass of liquor so I stood up and walked towards the counter to get a refill.
When I reached my destination, I froze as a deep voice echoed behind me. The music was loud but that voice silenced everything around me.
"Lumi,"
I turned around to see the man I hope to never see again.
A bunch of emotions came rushing towards me as I looked at his face holding such a beautiful smile. His dimples saying hello to the crowd he attracted.
A smile I have grown to hate.
His eyes were the same eyes that I fell in love with, but somehow those same eyes just make me want to run away.
"Sunghoon," even his name felt like venom coming out of my mouth. A bitter taste arising from my taste buds.
I could see everyone looking at him.
At us.
The famous high school sweethearts united once again after their mysterious time apart.
"How are you? It's been a long time, hasn't it?" His smile never faltered even with the gazes of the public, his eyes never left me.
After he disappeared to oblivion, he had the audacity to say those words to me.
I laughed as I got my drink from the bartender, "Sure has been a long time since you disappeared." I sipped my drink and watched his smile falter.
He looked like a deer caught in headlights, I guess he didn't expect me to call him out like that.
"Lumi, look—"
Before he could even speak, I stopped him, "Don't. It's fine now Sunghoon. I'm fine now. Please, don't try to ruin me again."
I could almost hear the gasps of the people around us. They knew how devastated I was because of what he did. Everyone knew because I couldn't keep the pain to myself.
I was heartbroken and it overwhelmed me.
I could feel everyone's gaze on me as I said those words to him. They never thought of me as someone so straightforward.
I never really was.
But he has always been the one to get me out of my norms. He always knew how to bring out the different side of me.
He's always been the trigger.
