"Mommy?" I ask, my dark brown hair blowing in my face. I look up at my parents who seem to be waiting for someone. A small drop of water hits my cheek and as i brush it away, I notice how scary this area looks. We are standing next to this run down corner shop that doesn't look like it receives many customers. The paint is peeling and graffiti masks the side wall closest to us. The windows are all boarded up and newspapers acts as curtains. The rest of the street looks remotely similar with the occasional street lamp illuminating the quite, damp road. Looking down at my watch I realise what time it actually is. Forty-seven past nine pm. "Mommy can we pleeeease go home now?" I repeat whilst tugging on her sleeve. It's my ninth birthday and my parents promised me that today will change my life. Only i have no idea how because all we've done today was walk around Gotham city and buy a few things.
My family isn't rich but mom and dad make a living from their jobs working at Arkham Asylum. A gust of wind knocks my beanie from my head so I make a grab for it, only to have a strong hand paced on my shoulder. "Daddy?" I ask my father who looks quite angry, "Please let go I need to grab my beanie." Suddenly something hard hits the back of my skull and I fall to the hard cement. Black dots flood my vision and I manage to hoist myself up on my right arm, to see my parents retreating figures, leaving me for dead, before I fade into the darkness.
