"I'm outside," I inform Lewis as I parked up outside his apartment. We were on the way to Monaco for the Grand Prix that Tony gave us tickets for. The actual race was tomorrow, but of course, with a 13-hour flight ahead we were leaving the night before.

It was also my birthday. I'm officially 23 years old today although it doesn't feel like it. It feels as though I've accomplished a lot in my life, honestly, being a soldier, hanging out with celebrities, being in exhausting relationships, but I can only be thankful for what life has given me so far.

"I'm coming down!" Lewis told me over the phone before hanging up and making his way to my car. I was super nervous as this would be Lewis and I's first 'vacation' away as a 'couple' trying to figure things out.

Truthfully, I'm beginning to feel comfortable with Lewis now and I think I can see our relationship progressing much further again. There is a small part of me that still doesn't like the controlling manipulative side he brought out after Afghanistan but he hasn't displayed any of those signs since.

The passenger side door opened and Lewis hopped in. He wore a bright smile on his face and his brown eyes were gleaming. I was glad he was just as excited as I was for the trip.

"Happy birthday, babe!" He exclaimed holding up a pink gift bag with yellow ribbons spiraling from it. My face heats up from the gesture, I wasn't expecting any presents so I was genuinely surprised. "I got you a little something..."

Lewis handed me the bag and I opened it up on my lap. The bag was filled with pink wrapping paper that I had to pull out before I was able to reach down inside and retrieve the gift.

My fingers danced around the long, cool object before I pulled it out revealing a large bottle of champagne.

"Wow...this looks...expensive!" I said looking at Lewis to see his reaction. My anticipation sank. I was expecting something more special than a bottle I could neck down in 8 minutes.

"Well, it's not as expensive as the other gift." Lewis gestured to the bag again, indicating to me there was something else inside. Unless this bag was bottomless no way would there be something else inside.

I took my hand regardless and dipped it back into the gift bag. I had to tap around a while before I finally felt a small, velvet box sitting right at the bottom.

I looked to Lewis who was cheesing like a little kid, looking more excited to give me the present than I was receiving it. I rolled my eyes at his content and I pulled the box out of the bag.

I sat there for a while, wondering what it was, making guesses in my head as to what it could be. For some reason, my first thought was: Engagement ring?! But I jumped the gun a little too quickly.

"Open it!" Lewis demanded, no longer being able to handle the tension between me and gift. I breathed out slowly as I opened the box. The contents were a silver necklace with two swords crossing over each other.*

It was a rather simple design, nothing too fancy but it was something.

"I don't know what to say..." I started trying to figure out what to say. I was thankful he even put the effort to find me a gift, I just didn't know what swords were supposed to represent. "Thank you! This is actually kind of cute!"

Lewis grinned, proud of himself for what he has just done. "Do you want me to put it on for you?" Lewis asked which I nodded to, handing the necklace over.

I turned around letting my back face him as he draped the necklace around my neck. The feeling of the cold chain on my skin made me shiver, but it felt good. After the necklace was clipped together, Lewis placed a soft kiss in the nook of my neck which caught me way off guard.
