"It's just unbelievable. It proves that the genie is out of the bottle and this man has no idea what he's doing."
I was sat head leaning on Lewis's shoulder as he wrapped his other arm around my body, softly caressing the small of my back. Pepper was on the other side of the jet, watching the same screen we were.
We were on the jet on the way back home after the Grand Prix fiasco and, of course, the world knew what had happened. The incident was a win for the government as they now had more motive to take the Iron Man suit, which was what Senator Stern was explaining on the news.
"He thinks of the Iron Man weapon as a toy." He says referring to Tony.
"I was at a hearing where Mr. Stark, in fact, was adamant that these suits can't exist anywhere else, don't exist anywhere else, never will exist anywhere else, at least for five to ten years, and here we are in Monaco realizing, 'These suits exist now—"
"Mute."
We turn around to see Tony standing in the hallway of the jet with a covered plate in his hand. I turned back to see that Tony had muted the television using voice command.
"He should be giving me a medal," Tony said walking round to take a seat opposite Pepper, "That's the truth."
Tony placed the plate on the table and removed the lid. "What is that?" I asked kind of disgusted. The plate had this odd-looking blob on it that looked both undercooked and burnt at the same.
"It's Pepper's in-flight meal." He replied seriously. I lifted my head from Lewis's shoulder and turned to Pepper, "Are you gonna eat that?" I rasped.
"Did you make that?" Pepper queried also looking nauseated from the contents sitting on the plate.
"Yeah. Where do you think I've been for three hours?" Tony asked.
"It took him three hours to make...that?" Lewis whispered in my ear, making me giggle. "He's a celebrity, a hero, a billionaire, and a genius. Guess you can't be good at everything." I replied.
"What are you not telling us?" Pepper quizzed, serious this time, but not taking the meal he made for her.
"I don't wanna go home. At all." He whined, "Let's cancel my birthday party and...we're in Europe! Let's go to Venice, Cipriani!"
"You can't cancel the party, Tony," I brought up. I was looking forward to it. Monaco was supposed to be a fun, laid-back getaway but it turned out to be the complete opposite. A party was what I was needed to get over what happened today.
"I don't think this is the right time. We're in kind of a mess." Pepper admits.
"Yeah, maybe that's why it's the best time. Cause then we can—" Tony responds before Pepper cuts in.
"Well, I think as CEO I need to show up."
"As CEO you're entitled to a leave. Y'know, a company retreat," Tony says.
"A retreat? During a time like this?" Pepper questioned.
Tony looked down while replying, "Just a ride. Well, I'm just saying, to recharge our batteries and figure it all out."
I look between Pepper and Tony while they silently think to themselves. Tony wanting quiet and sentimental was something neither of us had seen before.
"Not everyone runs on batteries, Tin Man," I tell him before I place my head back on Lewis's shoulder and drift off for the rest of the flight.
