We both giggled at the comment I made about elevators before I winced at the pain that laughing caused.
"You're gonna have to be brave about this one," he warned me before scooping me off the floor. I ouched a few times until I was on my feet. I used the glass to support myself as Steve pushed the button to open the elevator door.
There was no surprise that more agents were waiting to enter on the other side.
Once again we were caught in a sticking situation. More agents were waiting outside of our elevator meant we were completely trapped. These were armed with snipers and dressed like the SWAT team.
"Drop the shield and put your hands in the air!" One of them shouted.
Steve turned around and used his shield to cut the cable holding the elevator up. The elevator dropped down the shaft rapidly until it stopped, still multiple stories above the ground floor.
Cap went over to the door and pried it open. Through the gap, we spotted more SWAT agents running towards us. Steve quickly closed the doors again and ran to the window I was still leaning up against.
"God, what are you thinking, Rogers?" I questioned, feeling nervous about what his next move was. He didn't have to say anything. I knew what he was thinking, but there was no way that both of us would survive that jump.
"Give it up, Rogers! You have nowhere to go!" The agents yelled from outside the door. We couldn't see them but we could hear them clearly. It was only a matter of time before they were able to pry the doors open and shoot us both.
I cursed under my breath before Steve stepped back, "Do you trust me?"
I pursed my lips and furrowed my brows, "Of course I trust you. Why?"
Steve back up before he ran straight into me and smashed through the elevator glass. We fell for what felt like forever, and he was able to position me so that when we did hit the ground I would land on his back. Steve used his shield to soften the blow but the impact was tough on our bodies, especially my already-beat-up one.
Upon landing we did smash through a glass roof, making people scream and scatter once we'd hit the ground.
I rolled off Steve's body and mewled in pain. The shock rattled through my bones so hard. It also irritated my bullet wound which began to throb on my left bicep. "Rogers, I literally can't do this," I groaned.
He had gotten me in a tough situation. My body was hurting so bad I didn't know if I could even have the energy to run away. I also didn't want to burden him by essentially being dead weight.
"Come on. We're almost there," he encouraged, scooping me off the ground, into his arms, and running towards his motorcycle that was parked in the Triskelion garage.
Once we'd found his bike, he placed me on first and then jumped on in front of me. "Can you hold on?" He asked whilst starting the bike up.
"Yeah," I said, wrapping my arms tightly around his torso. I held on for dear life as he zoomed out of the garage. S.H.I.E.L.D. must've known because the gates were beginning to close as we edged closer to the exit.
The gates were like a set of jaws, they closed from the bottom and top at the same time. Steve was able to maneuver the motorcycle and jump through the gap as the gates shut together.
I had my face pressed up against the cold vibranium of his shield. I held on firmly until Steve instructed me otherwise.
We had picked up a lot of speed when spikes were placed at the end of the bridge to try and slow us down. They were soon followed by a Quinjet that flew over our heads, overtaking and lowering down in front of us.
