Romeo and Hailey talked continously over the phone whenever they weren't at work. When they were at work, they kept it professional in order to prevent suspicion.

Everyday, she learnt something new about him. She found him quite intriguing.

"Who are you texting?" Cassie questioned, leaning over on the sofa to take a peek at Hailey's phone.

Hailey grinned, "A friend."

Cassie cocked a brow, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips, "Who's this friend that keeps putting a smile on your face each time you read their message?"

Hailey giggled, shaking her head slightly, "He's actually my boss, Romeo."

Cassie's mouth fell open in astonishment, "Are you dating your boss, Hailey?"

Hailey scoffed, "Of course not! I don't see him that way. Plus, he's married."

"God, you're so naive, Hail. Not because he's married means he is faithful to his wife. That man just wants your booty."

Hailey rolled her eyes at her best friend, "Cassie, it's not like that. You don't even know him. How can you jump to a conclusion like that when I've never even told you about him?"

"All I'm saying is that he shouldn't be texting another woman," She responded, with a shrug of her bare shoulders.

Glancing at Cassie's sleeveless shirt, she answered, "We're just friends, Cass. His wife is a runway model and sometimes she's away for weeks. By the way, I love your shirt."

"Thanks, I purchased it from Fashion Nova," Cassie beamed, pushing her big glasses up her nose.

Hailey pouted playfully, "Why didn't you get me one?"

Cassie sighed, "You said you didn't like shopping online."

"But-"

Cassie cut her off with narrowed, suspicious eyes, "I know what you're doing."

Hailey glanced at her obliviously, "What am I doing?"

"You're trying to change the subject. We're not done talking about this Mero."

Hailey rolled her eyes in annoyance, "I wasn't trying to change the subject. And, it's not Mero, it's Romeo."

"Mero, Romeo, it's the same thing. All I want to say is be careful. You're a smart girl and I know you know what you want. Just please don't let this thing go beyond being more than friends." Cassie pleaded, showcasing her puppy eyes.

Cassie loved Hailey as much as she loved food. It broke her heart each time she witnessed her bestfriend crying from heartbreak. Hailey had a beautiful soul and she didn't deserve to be taken for granted.

"I promise," Hailey replied with a small, lip-locked smile.

"Pinky swear?" Cassie laughed, holding out her pinky finger.

"Pinky swear." Hailey replied, latching her pinky with her bestfriend's own.

Hailey knew Cassie was only looking out for her and she really appreciated it. She had already made a promise to herself that she'd never give her all to another man ever again. She'd never trust a man ever again or fall in love. Love was pain. And, Hailey, was tired of pain.

"Let's take a walk."

Hailey smiled kindly, glancing at her watch, "It's almost dark outside. We should be getting home."

"Come on. It's just a little after six. Hillary is still in L.A and my son is visiting his grandparents. There's nothing waiting for me at home and I could really use some fresh air with my beautiful friend." Romeo answered, a hopeful smile etched across his lips.

"Gaa," Hailey groaned playfully. She was really planning to go home and watch Lucifer with Panther.

"Please?" He pleaded, biting his lips, drawing her attention to them.

Gosh, he was so sexy.

"Okay, sure. Let's go but only because you called me beautiful," She responded, blushing slightly.

Why did it feel so good when he called her beautiful?

"Yay!" He beamed, "You go outside first. I'll grab my things and meet you out there."

Hailey offered a tight smile and nodded her head stiffly. She knew he was suggesting that she leave first so that others wouldn't see them together; Another great reason why she shouldn't take a walk with him.

The air was cool and a bit chilly reminding the duo that Christmas was a month away.

"What are you doing on christmas?" Romeo questioned as they strolled around the park.

Hailey released a short breath, "I'll probably visit my family."

"Oh, that's nice."

"What about you?"

"I haven't made any plans as yet."

The two stopped at a bench where they could look out at the lake in the distance. The moon was bright and full illuminating its beauty on the still, dark water.

"Beautiful," She muttered in awe as she stared at the moon's reflection on the lake.

Glancing at her, he smiled, "Stunning."

She felt his gaze on her and something told her that he wasn't talking about the lake.

She slowly turned to face him as a lock of her brown hair fell in her face. She watched as he reached out, placing the lock behind her ear. His thumb brushed against her face and he couldn't help but admire her beauty.

She gulped as she stared into his warm, hazel eyes. His lips were slightly parted and his minty breath fanned across her face, almost making her melt. His sandalwood perfume lingered in the air, making her aware of how amazing he smelled.

"You know these past weeks, you've been there for me more than my wife ever was," He breathed, striking his thumb along her jawline.

"That's the duty of a good friend," She whispered, her voice sounding a little hoarse.

"Sometimes it feels like we're more than that," He muttered, inching a little closer to her, her honey-like scent pulling him in.

She swallowed. "Yeah?"

"Yeah," He continued to stare at her, his gaze dropping to her pink lips, contemplating if he should get closer to her to find out the taste of her lips.

His fingers trailed along the structure of her face, igniting a spark within her. As if his touch burned her, she suddenly jumped up, his hand falling limply on the bench.

She cleared her throat before laughing nervously, "Um, I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow. Have a great night, sir!"

Sir...

She turned and walked away, biting her lip hard. She couldn't believe she had almost allowed him to get closer to her. Cassie's words rang loudly in her head. There was no way they could be more than friends. Why did he say that sometimes it felt like they were more than what they actually were?

It was obvious he wanted to kiss her by the way he was looking at her. She wouldn't allow him to; Not when he was her boss and he had a wife and a son.

He simply stared at her, trying to mask his disappointment. He watched as she quickly walked away, forcing his eyes not to look downwards. Even though he had never mentioned it to her, he couldn't get her out of his head. She had a beautiful and positive aura that kept pulling him towards her. He wanted to know her, inside and out. He wanted to be around her more.

He was tired of spending his nights in loneliness whilst his wife was away. Hailey had been there for him in more ways than she'd ever known. He wanted more of her.
