December rolled in pretty quickly in the blink of an eye. They had gotten pretty close over the past two weeks. He'd take her on dates whenever he could and they spent the most amazing times together.
She'd never met a man quite like him. Even though he was all that she had ever wanted, she wouldn't allow herself to fall for him. She'd never allow herself to be that broken woman again. So, she'd just enjoy it while it lasts.
"Happy birthday, babe," Hailey grinned as she pulled Romeo in for a tight hug.
It was the ninth day of December, and Romeo was now thirty-four years old.
She was always attracted to older men. To her, they were more mature than men her age and older men seemed wiser. Majority of them are very responsible and financially stable and she liked that. Older, mature men knew how to satisfy their women and treat them right.
He smiled as he snaked his arms around her waist and held her small ass in his hands, "Thanks, baby, I'm getting too old for you,"
She giggled cheekily, "I'm only twenty-one and you're not old,"
Romeo snorted, shaking his head slightly.
As they released each other, she questioned, "Any plans for the evening?"
He released a breath as he quickly glanced at his phone, "Well, kind of. My friends and I are going to hang out a bar."
Her smile faltered slightly in disappointment. For some reason, she believed he'd want to spend his birthday with her. Why did she even bother to get her hopes up? He didn't belong to her anyway.
She faked a broad smile, "Well, have fun,"
He chuckled, "Yeah, I'll try,"
Nodding once, she turned and walked away out of his office with a quiet sigh. She wouldn't allow herself to think about it. If he wanted to hang out with his friends on his birthday, she would allow him to do as he wished. She didn't own him.
It was a Friday evening and she wasn't ready to go home just yet as it was just a little after six.
She stood outside the building as she dialed Zach's number.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Hi, wanna hang out?"
"Sure, where are you?"
"I'm outside."
"Stay there, I'm coming," He replied before he hung up.
She then sent a text message to Cassie asking if she wanted to hang out too. A few seconds later, she quickly replied,
"Yes, bitch! Meet you at Roy's."
Roy's was one of the group's favorite bars. It was situated on a hill with a wonderful view of the city. It was a great place to have fun or to relax.
There was a quick, chaste kiss placed upon Hailey's cheek and she turned to meet Zach's excited eyes.
"T.G.I.F!" He exclaimed and she immediately started to grin.
It was finally the weekend and she was in the mood to have some fun. She hadn't gone dancing in a while and she could hear the bar and alcohol calling her name.
"We're meeting Cassie at Roy's." Hailey informed him.
"Okay, great, are you ready?" He inquired.
She nodded eagerly, "Yeah, let's go!"

Two hours and three glasses of Vodka later, Hailey was sweaty and dancing among her friends. She needed this. She needed to take her mind off reality for a while and drown her thoughts in alcohol, weed, and loud, ear-damaging music.
She grinded her hips against Zach as she moved to the sound of Kiss me more by Doja Cat and SZA.
His hands rested on her hips as he danced with her. He knew the only time she'd dance and drink like this was when she had something on her mind but he didn't dare question her. He knew she needed a breather from life and he was willing to help. He was willing to be there for his friend.
"Did you get the weed?" She inquired as she turned to face him, her arms wrapped around his neck.
He nodded with a mischievous glint in his eyes, "Yeah, let's get a room."
Smoking marijuana was also another escape for her that she enjoyed. It always put her mind at ease and she'd be stress-free for a while. She knew it wasn't healthy but sometimes she really needed it. She wasn't an everyday smoker though, she'd smoke at least once per month.
She sucked at making her own joint though. Even though Zach had quit smoking two years ago, whenever she needed it, he'd purchase it for her and roll her a joint. He didn't like to see her smoking but he loved to see when she was relaxed and happy.
Zach led her through the crowd of sweaty, dancing people as they made their way to Cassie who was dancing drunkenly on a guy who looked way too young to be at a club.
Grabbing Cassie's arm, she dragged her with them to the lounge.
"Why were you dancing with a sixteen year old boy?" Hailey scolded.
Cassie simply laughed, squeezing her dizzy eyes shut, "I thought he was sixty. I felt sorry for the old man so I danced with him,"
Hailey shook her head at her bestfriend. Cassie wasn't attracted to older men so she must had been really drunk to mistake a sixteen year old for a sixty year old.
Soon, they found an empty lounge where the three friends sat on a sofa. The room was darkly lit with a disco ball hanging from the ceiling. The room was located in the back of the club but they could still hear the music in the distance.
After Zach had finished rolling the joint for Hailey, he passed it to her.
Her eyes lit up in joy as she received it. Time to smoke the night away. With each puff that she took, her sorrows and thoughts floated away. She was relaxed, she was calm, she was at peace.
The rest of the evening was spent partying. At around one a.m., they decided to go home, so Zach, who was the most sober of them all, called an Uber.
Hailey's vision was blurry and her mind was elsewhere. She was drunk, high and happy.
Her eyes were tired and droopy. As soon as she arrived home, she flung herself onto her bed and drifted away into a deep slumber.
