"Take me home, please," Hailey mumbled as Romeo drove away from his house.

He nodded stiffly, "Okay,"

"We need to talk," She said with a sigh.

"I know,"

Hailey gulped, "We don't belong together,"

He glanced at her quickly before turning his attention back to the road, "What do you mean?"

"I mean we should break up,"

Romeo's grips on the steering wheel tightened and his jaw clenched in disagreement, "No,"

"What do you mean 'no'? You don't own me!" She exclaimed.

"Hailey!" He yelled, before biting down on his lip trying to control his anger, "You can't leave me!"

"And why the fuck not?!" She screamed.

"Because I love you!" He shouted, gripping the wheel even tighter.

"That's not a convincing reason for me to stay! How can you love me when you're married to someone else?!"

"I don't know, okay?! All I know is that I've fallen for you and I fell hard," He stated, a little quieter this time.

She stared at him in confusion and disbelief. Who did he think she was? An idiot?

"Romeo, you don't love me. You're infatuated with me. Romeo you are married. Why did you cheat on her?"

"Because...she's never here. She's always away at some show. She travels more than you and I. I was alone and lonely," He breathed out, shakily.

"I understand that but you didn't have to cheat on her. I can tell she loves you. Don't you love her anymore?"

"Please don't ask me that," He said pleadingly, quickly glancing at her.

"Romeo, I need to know. Do you still love her?"

"Yes, yes! I still love her, okay?!" He yelled in frustration.

"Then how can you love me? Why do you have to lie?" She cried out, trying her best to keep the tears away.

"I'm not lying to you, Hailey. I love you. I love my wife. I love my child. I don't want to lose you, okay? You can't leave me!"

"Romeo, stop!" She screamed, "Don't you see how wrong you are for me?! You are toxic! You're too jealous and insecure! You don't even trust me! Everyday you accuse me of cheating when you've been doing the same every day with me! You are not right for me. You don't even care about me! Do you remember what you did on my birthday?! You didn't even take me out!"

"Should I have chosen you over my son?!"

"I was not asking you to chose between your son and I! I could never do that! You could've taken me out before or after you and your son went out. You could've called me that day, but you didn't. You made me spend my birthday in misery and you didn't even say I'm sorry!" She bellowed, the tears finally starting to rain down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry, okay?! I really am! I promise you that on your next birthday, I will take you out, anywhere you want to go,"

"My next birthday?" She scoffed, "Romeo, our relationship ends right now. There is no more me and you. You've taken me for a fool for far too long. You don't care about me. You never did and I should've known better. We don't even talk anymore! You don't call me or text me and each time that we talk on the phone, you barely say anything!"

"I know, I know! I...my...my wife has been home a lot recently,"

Hailey laughed humorlessly, "So, you can't talk to me when she's around, right?"

"I'm sorry," He muttered as he pulled up at her flat.

"Yeah, whatever. We're done," She said confidently as she aggressively wiped away her tears.

"Hailey, please," He begged, placing a hand on her thigh and staring into her teary eyes.

"No, besides it would never work out anyway. I'm leaving in a month,"

His brows furrowed in confusion, "Leaving? Where are you going?"

"Los Angeles. I'm starting university,"

A grin formed upon his lips, "Oh, baby, that's amazing. I'm so proud of you. Why didn't you tell me this?"

She pushed his hand off her thigh aggressively, "Don't touch me and don't call me baby, and you would've known if you were calling me!"

He released a deep breath, "I know, but baby—I mean, Hailey, we can make this work. I've never been in a long distance relationship before, but we can try,"

Hailey glared at him in annoyance, "This is not about making a long distance relationship work! This is about me breaking up with you because this isn't working out. Now, I'm tired and Cassie is waiting for me inside, Goodbye Romeo,"

Romeo released a defeated breath and nodded his head stiffly. His heart fell as it broke into a million pieces. She was serious. She was really leaving him and there was nothing he could do about it. She was right — he didn't own her and he was never hers. They never meant to be together and he just had to accept that fact, but there was one thing he wanted to know,

"Did you ever love me?"

She looked at him, long and hard before answering, "I never did. Have a good evening and a nice life,"

Before he could think of a response, she was already out of his car. And for the first time in fifteen years, Romeo shed a tear.

"You did the right thing," Cassie breathed out as she hugged Hailey in her arms as they stood in the kitchen.

"I know," Hailey replied with a sniff.

Releasing her, Cassie looked at her and questioned, "How do you feel?"

Hailey smiled as tears of joy raced down her cheeks, "I feel free,"

Cassie grinned, "Good. He didn't deserve you. I'm really sorry it took you seven months to find that out,"

Hailey laughed, "Seeing Hillary was like an awakening to  how dumb I've been,"

Cassie giggled along with her, "I'm so proud of you, but also I'm really sad that you'll be leaving next month,"

Hailey sighed, "I know, I'm going to miss you and Zach so much, but I need this. I need a fresh start, and you know I've always wanted to go to Los Angeles since we were little girls,"

"I know. Just promise you'll call everyday,"

Hailey grinned, pulling her bestfriend into her arms, "I promise"

Cassie left an hour after they ate and Hailey went straight to bed after a quick, warm shower.

That night, at three a.m., her phone rung, frightening her out of a peaceful slumber.

Frantically, she flicked the lights of the lamp on, and grabbed her cellphone. She groaned at the caller ID before answering the call,

"Zach, you better have a damn good reason for calling me this late!"

"Hailey?" Zach cried out in panic on the other line.

Oh no.

Sitting up hastily, she pressed the phone closer to her ear, "Zach, are you alright?"

"Hailey...it's Cassie. She's...she's in the hospital again,"
