Zach had already left by the time she had reached outside, and she hadn't heard from him since. A month had passed after Cassie's surgery. After the operation, she went into rehab; She had ninety days remaining.

Hailey was ecstatic that Cassie was alive but she was also hurt that Zach refused to talk to her. That day when he found out that she was dating Romeo, she ran after him but he was already gone. He didn't show up up work either. She knew he was angry. Mad, even. Zach was her bestfriend, and she told him things but dating Romeo was one thing she could never tell him. She hadn't been true. She was being naïve, even. Dating her married boss? Did she fall on her head?

Speaking of married boss...it had been almost four months since they had started dating and it was almost peachy...Romeo was amazing. He was sweet and he was a gentleman. He never made her feel like a side-chick. Sometimes she'd wonder if he was still married, but the ring on his his finger never disappeared.

The only thing that was very concerning for her was that his texts were beginning to get fewer. He rarely called or texted and when he did, it was only a few words. She missed him, more than she should've, but whenever they'd see each other, she'd forget all about it as he made sure their dates were spectacular and he treated her like a queen.

Speaking of queen. It was March eleventh, Hailey's twenty-second birthday and she knew he was planning to treat her like a queen.

He would be there in the next fifteen minutes and she was all ready. She stared at her reflection in the mirror wit a bright smile. She wore a pretty pink, sleeveless dress that had a very low cleavage, exposing a bit of her perky breasts. The dress was tight around her waist. Below the waist, the dress was a bit pleated and floral, reaching her mid thighs. She paired that with a pair of light pink heels. She hadn't really done much with her hair. She only straightened it and applied minimal makeup.

Her phone sounded with a text message from her lover:

Romeo: I'm outside, baby

She squealed in excitement. She could tell that this was going to be her best birthday yet.

After shutting the front door, she skipped towards his car in her heels like a pro.

She grinned at him as she sat in the car, "Hey,"

He grinned back as his eyes raked over her attire, "Damn, you look so sexy,"

She giggled, "Thank you,"

"Come here," He said with a smirk and she leaned in to kiss his lips.

"Mmm," She hummed as his lips glided over hers.

"Happy Birthday, baby,"

"Thank you,"

"I love this lipstick you're wearing," He mumbled.

"Glad you like it,"

The couple pulled away and he smiled at her as he reached into his pocket. After pulling out his debit card, he passed it onto her.

She stared at the card in confusion as she received it, "What's this for?"

"Take it, baby. Do something nice for yourself. Do your hair and your nails, go shopping if you like. I don't care, max out my card, it's your day," He said with a wide smile.

Her brows furrowed in confusion. It was nice that he was offering her money, but this wasn't what she wanted.

"I don't understand. Aren't you going to take me out?"

His features softened as a sigh left his lips, "No, I'm sorry, hon. It's my son's birthday too and we've been planning his birthday bucket list since last year. I can't disappoint him,"

'But you're disappointing me,' She muttered in her mind.

"So, I got all dressed up for nothing? Why didn't you tell me this before?" She said.

He reached over to hold her face in his palm, "Please don't be upset with me. I didn't know you were going to get dressed up. Please understand. I can't disappoint my son,"

She scoffed as she violently shook her head in disbelief, "Take your stupid card,"

She dashed the card onto his lap and got out off the car, making sure to slam the door as hard as she could behind her.

"Baby!" Romeo called as she stomped towards her front door.

"Bastard!" She mumbled.

After slamming her front door shut, she slumped against the door and a few seconds later, she heard him speed away.

A tear fell down her cheek in sadness. She'd have to spend her birthday alone. Cassie was in rehab and Zach went AWOL.

She couldn't understand his reason. She was blinded by her anger. Didn't she matter to him?

Is this how he proved to care for her?

It was her fucking birthday! He knew her friends weren't around to celebrate with her and this was how he showed how much he cared?

Maybe she really meant nothing to him. Maybe all of this was just a game to him. He had to be playing a game. She knew it from the start. She knew that he was trouble. The man was fucking married. It was all her fault. She allowed him him get into her panties. He was playing her and it was so obvious. He didn't care about her. He never did. He only used her for his unholy pleasures.

Hailey sobbed uncontrollably as she flung herself into the sofa.

"What's wrong with me?"
