Her knees were pulled up to her stomach as she rested her chin on them. She rocked back and forth in her sofa in panic with wide, worried eyes. She chewed on her nails erratically as she looked at nothing. Glancing at her phone for the tenth time, there were no calls or messages.

It was Monday. Three days since that night and she hadn't heard from him since he dropped her home. There was no text message, no call, nothing. He didn't show up at work and he didn't page her or email her. There was no communication, nothing. Each time she dialed his number, it went straight to voicemail. Something was wrong.

Apprehensive thoughts roamed her mind as she thought about all the negative possibilities. Did he meet in an accident after he dropped her home that night? Or did his wife find out about them and they got into a fight? Was he no longer interested in her and decided to block her?

Her heart was heavy with worry and apprehension and her head hurt with all the worrying and overthinking. She had never gone two days without a word from him. Never. They may not talk throughout the day continuously but they had never went a day without a text message or phone call. Somewhere, down deep in her gut, she knew something was wrong.

"Stop worrying," Cassie stated softly. She was greatly perturbed about her best friend. It seemed as if Hailey was about to lose it if Romeo didn't call very soon.

"I can't. What if he's lying in a gutter somewhere?"

"He's not. Maybe he's on vacation or something."

"Vacation? He took me out on a date on Friday. He would've told me if he was going on a vacation," She stated, dashing her a stupid look.

"Well, maybe he lost his phone,"

Hailey immediately stopped rocking and thought about it. Maybe he lost his phone after he dropped her off. But, how would that even be possible? He told her just before she got out of his car that he was going straight home. Unless if he...lied.

"I don't think so,"

Cassie sighed deeply and placed a hand on Hailey's shoulder, "Look, Hail, I'm sure he's fine. I don't know what to say to make you think differently but don't give yourself a migraine over him. He's not worth it,"

Hailey narrowed her eyes at Cassie, "What do you mean he's not worth it?"

"Hailey, open your eyes. He's cheating on his wife with you. His marriage is in shambles right now and you are his sexual escape. He doesn't love you,"

Hailey stared at her as her mind went blank. She didn't know what to think or how to respond. Was she really just his sexual escape? Did the times they spent together mean nothing to him? No, he had to feel something because she was feeling something. She wasn't in love with him but she liked him, maybe way too much. Of course, she hadn't forgotten that he was married. She could never forget that. She just ignored it, to protect her heart.

"I know he doesn't love me and I don't either. I know we won't last. What we have is just...temporary and I don't mind. I like being around him. He...he makes me happy," Hailey said softly.

Cassie shook her head at her friend's stupidity, "He doesn't make you happy, Hail. He just doesn't make you feel lonely. You're afraid of being alone."

"No!" Hailey yelled, "That's not true. You think you know me but you don't. You don't know Romeo like I do."

"I may not know him personally but I know his kind. How do you know he haven't blocked you now because he's had his fun while his wife was away?" Cassie bellowed, getting mad at her friend for being so naïve.

Again, Hailey was speechless. What if Romeo was just using her? No, he couldn't be. If he was, why did he tell her that he wished he had met her before he married his wife? He couldn't have been lying that night. He couldn't have been.

"You know what I think?" Hailey muttered, "I think you're just jealous that I actually have a man who takes me out and treats me like a queen,"

Cassie gasped in shock as she rose to her feet. Hailey had gone too far. Romeo had her fooled. He had her wrapped around his little finger.

"What?! Jealous? Of you? Why the fuck would I be jealous of you? Look at you being all pathetic over a married man!" Cassie yelled, balling her fists at her sides in anger.

"Did you just call me pathetic?" Hailey snarled as she slowly stood up, glaring devilishly at Cassie.

"Yes, I did. You are so damn pathetic. You need to wake up. Romeo isn't into you and you are going to get yourself hurt again!"

"You know what? You're just jealous and you're not happy for me!"

"Oh, I'm not happy-"

"Yes, you're not happy for me. Why don't you just get out?!" Hailey shouted, pointing at the door.

Cassie glared at her, gritting her teeth in anger. Of course she wasn't jealous of her, all she wanted Hailey to do was to open her eyes and smell the roses. That man was no good for her.

"Fine," She said before turning on her heels.

Hailey folded her arms across her chest as she watched her best friend walk through the door before slamming it behind her.

The loud bang of the door made her flinch and then all her senses came rushing back.

"Oh my, God. What just happened?" She asked herself as she covered her pounding face with her palm.

She slowly sat on the sofa as their aggressive interaction played on her mind. They had never ever fought like that before and it was all Halley's fault. She knew Cassie wasn't jealous of her and she knew she was only looking out for her, but the things she said about Romeo weren't true. Romeo may have been married but he was heaven sent. He treated her as if she was the only girl in the world and whenever she was around him she felt safe.

With a deep, shaky breath, she laid on her back in the sofa and closed her tired eyes.

What had she done?
