Added Scenes - continuing the story

Next Level- Ending

Long after the ice cream had finally melted.  Han Shangyan and Tong Nian began the drive to her parents house. While the drive itself  was only about 20 minutes it felt like an eternity. Tong Nian watched her fiancé with worry. Han Shangyan drove silently and steadily. While out of the corner of his eyes watch her every move. She stared out the window a lot rubbing her hands together, a telling song that she was deep in thought and nervous. One of the drawbacks to her high intelligence is her thoughts and emotions do not always catch up quick enough to each other. He tried playing the radio in order to break the tension but all that came up was static. The couple kept silence as her housing complex became larger in view.

  After silently park in the car Hon Shangyan looked over at his little squid with a shadow of a smile.
" I know this is scary to think about. And I never wanted to push you. So when we go in I'll tell them that we are not thinking about children and not to rush us if that's what you want."
   He watcher her eyes for regret. Searching for the sign that showed she would break their engagement. He couldn't even think about how he would go on if she did. Before Tong Nian came into his life, he was dark and ridged. Focused only on winning. For China. But the small beautiful intelligent girl beside him taught him to love. To smile. No one not even him was allowed to take away her smile.
Tong Nian looked at large protective man beside her. He was Gun God, her man and In some ways her hero.
" It's not that the thought hasn't come up I didn't think about it I even went as far as to talk to my mentor to see, what my options are. because we are getting married OK but I'm not ready I want to finish my PhD I want to be married to you but I'm not ready to have children at least I'm not ready to plan to have children if it does happen though I think a son would be nice."
  She smiled at him fully now. Bright eves filled with love. Han Shangyan felt his heart skip a beat. His Little Squid would not be deterred by something that was out of their control. If kids come so be it. But they wouldn't be actively planning for one. This was a compromise that he could happily agree too.
Taking her small hand in his and simultaneously running his index finger down her nose he gave her a full smile then the smile that he only reserved for her. With his smile, he lifted the heavy cloud over the couple. The day was sunny again. And the anticipation of seeing each other outweighs the worry of what was behind the door.

The two started their walk and was walking through the front hallway in no time. Her parent were seated drinking tea with his grandfather and surprisingly his stepmom. The woman who raised him after the passing of his parents. While Han Shangyan expected to his is grandfather. His stepmother being there threw him for a loop. The coffee table was covered in baby clothes and magazines. Tong Nians father and Han Shangyans grandfather were drinking tea.

"Ah they have arrived" exclaimed Tong Nians mother. It seems that the odds of her mother being on the couples side seemed slim. Her mother walked over carrying a small set of baby shoes and hat. Nian Nian looked at her fiancé with fear. They were done for!
Han Shangyan cleared his throat calling the attention of the room. It was no secret that he wasn't a fan of talking. Especially in crowds. The elders looked at him with curiosity.
" it seems like we're all here because of something I said this morning editor close his mouth before looking at his grandfather I want to apologize for saying that we're not going to be having kids for that I don't plan on having kids. I said that this morning out of frustration and I'm sorry grandfather"
He looked at his future mother in law and father in law. " I never wanted to push Nian Nian into having children I want her to have her own dream and to continue school as she wishes. And the reason why we're a bit late coming to meet  you because we decided to have a discussion between ourselves."
He then turned to the group as a whole. "We've agreed to have children but we're not going to be actively trying. Tong Nian has spoken with her mentor already about alternative options to continue her degree if she ends up pregnant after the wedding"
He then sat down. While the elders looked at him with dropped jaws. They didn't think they had already has a plan in place. Let alone one with that much compromise. After far as they knew their Little Han wasn't one to plan ahead. But they should have known that Nian Nian would have come up with a plan already.
 
Her father stood up first looking between the young couple. "Then I believe there's nothing else to say". Grandfather started to protest but was taken gently by his elbow curtesy of Han Shangyan's stepmother. As the elders left the room one by one Tong Nian's mother looked back and nodded her approval. The couple broke into laughter after what felt like and eternity of holding their breath. So much tension for a five minute speech. Another test cleared for the young couple. Hopefully the last one before the wedding.

End Credits: 5 months later,  3 months after the wedding..
Tong Nian cheered with her entire breath as K &K took the championship. The Chinese anthem blared from the speakers as the World Cup was held over DT's head. Han Shangyan kissed his dear wife with tears in his eyes. He was proud, so proud. Of his team. Of realizing his dream. And of his wife. His devoted beautiful wife. Nothing would be better then this moment. A moment of 10 years in the making.
Well almost nothing. As the stage cleared out he held back with his wife. Earlier she whispered she wanted to talk after everyone left to celebrate. His hands were shaking with both joy and anticipation. What could his wife have planned now?
She brought him to the center of the stage. Where just a few moments ago his team won the world championship for their country.
After  a deep breathe she spoke. " Han Shangyan...Gun. Today you won. You did it. You made your dream come true. You made my dream come true by asking me to marry you. But now there's one more dream to fulfill."
    Han Shangyan looked at her in confusion. What was there left?  Looking down he saw the tiny row of photos. Blurry in black and white. In the middle a small circle the size of a mandarin.  He looked up with shock as she began and to cry. Small photos, tears, the anticipation. She was pregnant!
  Of all the joy he has felt. All the pride he just won from the championship was nothing compared to the pride and joy he felt hugging his wife. He picked her up bridal style to give her a kiss worthy of the gift she just bestowed onto him. His team and friends came in just then to finally celebrate the championship. The couple smiled at each other glowing under their shared secret. Life and the joys of it are meant to be shared. But this secret, is one they will keep between them for a while.
