Monday morning I strutted into my workplace feeling happier than ever, dressed in my new outfit topped off with a pair of classy high heels.I kept up with my usual tradition of greeting the employees that I caught sight of as I made my way towards my office.I cringed mentally when I saw Jason, who was younger than me by only two years, raking my body with his young, curious eyes.It wasn't the first time that I had caught him inappropriately looking at me,his boss, but I would never get used to his raw gaze.

An unpleasant shiver ran through my spine and I entered my office abruptly,in desperate need of a place to cower from the young man's eyes.I sighed and threw my purse onto the comfortabe couch and placed myself right next to it,the sudden loud ringing catching my attention.I searched throw the bag and finally found my cellphone, relieved that it hadn't stopped ringing. It had taken minutes before I finally felt it among all the other object carelessly thrown into the purse.

"Hello?"I asked excitedly, even though I knew who was calling.

"Hey,Charlotte"A masculine voice greeted,"How are things?"

"Everything's quite fine here"I said and rose from the chair, heading over to the large windows which gave me the best view of the busy road under.Like ever other time I placed myself near the window,my gaze sought out all the different activities taking place below me.

"You know what,John?"I asked, smiling as a thought popped into my head,"Why don't we get togethe later"

He chuckled lightly and I couldmimagine the sweet smile forming on his lips,"That's a gret idea, exactly what I called for in the first place!"

The sound of the door opening caught my attention and I twisted, still in my same spot,to see Jada silently entering the office. She set a pile of papers onto my desk and seated herself in the nearest chair, tugging st the ends of her hair as she patiently waited for me to attend to her.I hadn't spoken to her for some days now,and I was eager to start up a conversation once again.Out of all the other employees,I was the closest to her.

"I'll have to call you back,John.I've got some work to do"

"I understand. But don't forget about our plans, alright?"He teased and chuckled.

"Alright,goodbye"

"Goodbye"

"Who was that?"A curious voice asked and I turned around see Jada smiling wickedly, curosity in her bright eyes.

"He's just a friend really"I muttered,a smile taking over my lips.

Getting into my business like mood,I walked towards my desk and sat on my usual chair, curious to what Jada had come in for.Two pictures of Josh were set on the smooth surface, one of him playing with his action figures and the other of him smiling at the camera adoringly, and one of Linda and my father right beside them.I purposely ignored the fact that there was much more room to put a picture of my brother,Jacob.I could picture myself sobbing helplessy every day if I had placed a picture in clear view for me to see all the time.

Ignoring the sinking feeling in my heart I turned to Jada,"So what brought you here my lovely assistant?"

"Remember when you mentioned joining the business with a landscaping one?"

Excitement immediateely got the best of me,"Yeah, what about it?"

"Well...I received a call from Alyssa Maxwell today.Turns out the successful woman had the exact idea as you.And guess what? Her landscaping company's been doing better than ever these days.It would be a perfect deal!"

"Don't get ahead of yourself just yet"I said and chuckled at her, though I was feeling even happier now,"I think we should at least meet up with her first.Don't you think?"

Jada leaned back in her seat and smiled,"I'll arrange a meeting as soon as I can"

Several other persons were seated at the same table as I,engaging in conversations and flicking through the magazines dostractedly. They were the people I depended on to assist me in running my business, and though I was their boss, they were just as important as I was.

Nervously I played with my nails, which I had painted a dark red the night before, and awaited the woman we had been waiting on all this while-Stacy Maxwell.Since the day she had turned twenty one she inheritted her father's business,S.S.T Landscaping.Ever since then she had been running it successfully, earning positive comments from people for being able to run such a successfull business despite being so young.Rumour had it that though she sounded responsible and polite, she was a stuck up bitch wanting to sign a deal with every other similar, successful business to earn as much money as she could.

And from what I had remembered when Jada pranced into my office one day, claiming that she had juicy news to share,he husband had apparantly cheated on her with more than six women. As bad as it sounded,we couldn't help but indulge in the gossipping. It was like that with everyone else who ran a similar business. For example, evryone knew that Drew Westly, who owned the large store that supplied the materials for our projects and many other people's similar businesses ,had been married more than three times, and had a young baby with another woman whom he had never been wed to.

The clicking of heels caught my attention and everyone looked up to see the attractive woman strutting into the room,a solemn expression on her face.Everyone rose to their feet and greeted he,including me.Her grip was like iron and I could barely fight the urge to shiver when I looked into her eyes. Her features showed one thing for sure-that she was strictly business.

"Maybe that's why she paid no attention to her husband and he scurried off with others"A wicked voice in my head chimed, and I mentally slapped myself for thinking such horrid thoughts.

My thoughts were interrupted when she cleared her throat and took her seat,"I've brought along some photos from my previous projects. Please look across the room and to the projector"

What?Who had given this bitch acess to the projector anyway? It must have been Jason,he was the usually the one in charge of it when we held our meetings. That boy would definitely listen to any attractive woman in heels. But the rumour about her being a bitch was most certainly true,I hadn't liked her one bit when she rambled on about how successful she was,and I mentally kicked her long feet in my head when she started discussing how much money she made during a year. She hadn't even mentioned how much her business made all together, just how much money she earned from her work.

Deciding to join in on everyone else, and because Jasoon shot me a look as to say "Pay Attention!",I swivelled around in my chair and stared at the projector.Despite my obvious disliking towards her,I couldn't help but gape at the beautiful work she had done.If our companies had joined,to become one successful landscaping and interior designs buisness, our incomes would sky-rocket.Not that it mattered.I was already fine with the amount of money I earned.

"These next pictures are of my own home"She said and smiled boastfully, pointing towards the projector,"In my opinion,my business and yours would go perfectly well together"

The wicked voice in my head decided to think again,"Looks like the wicked witch of the west isn't fine with the amount of money she makes"

But right as the pictures of her own garden projected across the screen,I went pale.
