Y/N POV
My custom order for Draco's birthday gift just arrived this morning along with another package and letter from Mother Cissy asking me to give this weird looking box to Draco. It was probably a gift too since his birthday was tomorrow.
Over the past few weeks, especially during the days Draco stayed in the hospital, my mood had gone up and down randomly and most of the times when it happened, it was rather unexpected. Draco might be okay with me being a moody arse, but I knew deep down in his heart that he must've been cheesed off as well.
Plus, Myrtle and Astoria were proven to be a duo, fiend-like wight. How witless I was to think that they might be good or generally neutral characters. I hadn't seen the ghost lately and the same went with Astoria. The boys definitely hated her yet I still hold some hope concerning our friendship right here.
I might be a feeble-minded person to wish for disagreeable things like this, but I couldn't help myself. If I lost this friendship, I would be completely alone with only boys as friends from my own house.
The main issue that stirred all the negativity in my mind was Draco's accident. I tended to blame myself for it because I reckoned it had something to do with the future I changed. What if Draco got hurt because I messed up the God-made timeline?
If only I had let things go as they are supposed to go, maybe it wouldn't have affected Draco.
"Y/N, can you pass me the book over there," Draco turned around from his seat.
I heard what he said yet my body froze in place, not knowing what it should do next though my brain had sent multiple commands through the nerves.
"Darling, are you all right?"
"It's my fault, Draco. You would never have dealt with blood, pain and scars if I—"
"It's not your fault. It's nobody's fault—no, actually, if there's someone to blame, I think it's Potter. Don't blame yourself, Y/N. You never hurt me, you always help heal my wounds," he squeezed my hand.
I stared at him, questioning whether I should believe what he said or acquiesce in the way my brain wanted me to apprehend how things were. Being aware of my current denial stage, Draco didn't stop trying to make me feel better.
He patted my head, threw some jokes—lame jokes to be precise, I didn't believe he would be a great comedian—went sideways to distract me and obviously, he did hug me as we agreed a hug would regularly solve everything between us. While it worked for only a good few seconds, I was, however, coincidentally brainwashed by my own brain within the next second.
Mental, I know.
How does one not have the full ability to control the brain on their own? Maybe I'm truly just dumb.
"No, you're not. You're just a tiny bit slower than most people when it comes to emotional stability," Draco said as if he accidentally read my thoughts again.
"Did I say it out loud or you're just a brilliant wizard who can read minds?"
Laughter filled the air as he asked, "Do you really wanna know who I am?"
I grew out an evident smile while nodding persistently.
"Well . . . if you insist, M'Lady," he fixed his sitting position as he tucked some of my hair, "I'm just an ordinary Malfoy who falls for an overthinking angel named Y/N Richards."
"Am not an overthinker," I disputed even though it was 100% true.
"Sure, you never are," he smirked, "anyway, show me what's in the box?"
