Y/N POV
I woke up alone again.
Ever since Draco confessed the truth, things had never been the same. As always, his promise was nothing I could trust, though I couldn't blame it on him entirely. Voldemort was the bad guy. He somehow found a nonsense way to make Draco spend less time with me. He said it was a quick meeting, but as far as I had counted for each day, it lasted almost half the day.
I liked waiting for Draco to return because he would spoil me with his endless love until I woke up alone again the next day. But I have a limit, like any other living being. My greed began to take over, sometimes leading to bitter debate. People said couple's fights strengthened the bond, yet it didn't feel like that between me and Draco.
I worried so much that it might burst more issues in our relationship.
We had quite a big argument last night. The main problem was that I was scared the long-distance relationship system wouldn't work for us. Draco convinced me things would always work out in the most unexpected ways if we believed in one another.
I believed in him, right?
With doubts sufficing my heart, I continued my daily routine without him. I had formed an intense yearning for my friends. Hundreds of letters had been written, but not even one could be mailed out. Grey was gone, and the Malfoys' owls were monitored strictly, making it impossible to send my letter to anyone. Frankly, I started getting sick of the ink smell each time I brought the quill to scribe alphabets on the vellum. But if I didn't do this, I would quickly get bored, and the doubts would crowd my mind.
I made my way to the open balcony. The bright blue sky had my attention as I enjoyed the loneliness of another day. My fingers tapped the side holder of the chair persistently, waiting for my daily afternoon tea session.
"You're a bit late today. Did something happen?" I questioned calmly once the house elves entered the room with tea and snacks.
"Master Draco asked us to give you this."
They ignored my question as usual and handed me a piece of parchment with Draco's handwriting saying: do not open this until you eat the scones.
"He won't make it to dinner tonight," added one of the elves.
My heart hurt knowing it meant we had less time to spend together, but what else could I do?
The house elves left after placing everything on the table neatly. My hand immediately snatched a piece of scone. After taking a small bite at a time, I unfolded the parchment paper to see nothing but a sentence in the middle of the paper.
You're beautiful.
And I smiled like an idiot.
I didn't understand why he would write this and ask the house elves to deliver it to me when he could say it to my face late. It wasn't something important, yet somehow, my heart tickled with joy, and butterflies burst in my stomach as my cheeks heated with a rosy pink colour. Draco Malfoy always knew how to make me beam so effortlessly.
"Ah, you're blushing," a familiar voice clamoured. I looked up from the paper as fast as I could. Draco was sitting across from me.
When did he get here?
"And you only took one bite. I'm disappointed."
"I couldn't help with my curiosity taking over. What's this for anyway?" I giggled.
"Just a fact I want you to know and remember," he exclaimed before sipping the blood-red cranberry tea from my cup.
That got me blushing again. I took the same teacup and traced a line over the side of it before sipping my tea at a slow pace. I almost spouted the tea when he stared at me with a huge smirk. He rested his head on one of his hands, looking at me dearly and said, "You're really beautiful, Y/N."
