QuinnTyler and I decided that we will tell our parents of our decision tonight. We hoped that they’ll understand us. Especially me.
We planned to have dinner at my home. Tyler’s parents were happy to oblige, thinking it was another gathering for the family.
Everyone was talking animatedly, throwing random topics here and there. I only spoke whenever I was asked though. I was nervous because there’s a possibility that they might throw a fit.
I feel my fiance’s hand on my thigh. He squeezes it, showing his support. I gather my confidence and exhale the growing tension I was feeling.
“Tyler and I…” Everyone’s attention suddenly shifted towards me instantly. “...decided to postpone the wedding.”
Everyone gasped, shocked at my announcement. My mom started her neverending questions. Everyone’s reactions were the same and the many questions they all asked simultaneously made the dinner chaotic.
“It’s not what you think.” Tyler immediately cleared up the misunderstanding. They calmed down and the chaos was replaced with silence. All ears were ready to hear our explanation.
“Alright. Explain then, son.” My father ordered, giving us a chance to explain the mess we suddenly created.
“It’s two days before your wedding and you suddenly drop a bomb like this.” It was Tyler’s mom who spoke but her husband placed a hand on her shoulder calmly and shook his head to warn her not to interrupt us.
“Kura is missing.” I watched my parents’ reaction and was not surprised at their shocked and concerned look. “We haven’t heard from her for weeks and she’s not replying to any texts or answering our calls. We’re worried for her. I can’t continue with the wedding knowing there’s a possibility that my best friend might be in danger.”
“Oh, dear.” Olivia, Tyler’s mom, muttered in surprise. Her hand covered her mouth in surprise. The rest was quiet, probably still processing the information.
“I hope you understand this. The decision was mutual and you don’t need to worry about us. Quinn and I are more than fine. We just think it’s inappropriate to celebrate knowing one of us is missing.” Tyler reassured them.
“What if Kura is just alright? She’s somewhere taking a vacation. You know how that girl is. You would complain about her sudden disappearance at times.” My dad said hypothetically.
“Dad, I know this time is different. She didn’t go to the dress fitting knowing it’s my important day. She never disappoints me cause every special day I have, she always finds a way to get there. And she’s gone for weeks, not days, dad.”
“Did you try to contact the police?” Dave, Tyler’s dad, asked.
Tyler cleared his throat before answering. “We have some leads… and I don’t think informing the police right now is a good idea.”
Silence devoured us once more.
When Tyler knew that there’s a possibility that my ex took her, he was livid. He’s been quiet and cold. It was his way of showing he was angry. The good thing is he never brushes me off whenever he feels that way or he’s not in the mood. He allows himself to cool down and then we talk.
What’s more, he was furious that I hung out with him. It was the day when I couldn’t be reached and everyone was worried. Tyler was suddenly convinced that there was a foul play on that. Colton confirmed it when Kura went back to look for me and suspected that Jacob may have been the one who was with me. And she was right.
I thought he was just jealous at first but then he said that he was extremely worried that something might’ve happened to me considering I was with a drug lord.
“If that’s the case, we should start searching for her. We will hire private investigators, the best of the best to look for her.” Dad suggested as he understood what his soon to be son in law said.
I shook my head. “We’re already on it, dad. If it’s to reassure you, Nile is helping us with the search.” They knew Nile was a powerful man so he was already a more than enough help.
“We should help you, dear. The more help, the more coverage you could get.” Dave said with sincere concern.
“We decided to do this on our own. Let the younger generation handle this.” Tyle spoke lightly as if there was no purpose of what he said and more of a joke. But it wasn’t.
Because of the close relationship we have, we expect that they’ll understand us, more so help us. It’s not that we refuse their help. It was because we are dealing with a drug lord. We didn’t want them to be put in danger. We’d like to avoid it as much as possible.
This case was no joke. It was not that simple. We couldn’t just simply go to the police and report. There are a lot of cons. We plan to avoid someone getting hurt or worse, killed if we can. We agreed to do this the safest way as much as we can.
I don’t think Nile would agree to that though. From the looks of it, he was out for blood. Jacob’s blood.
Although Nile was the one who suggested that we do not involve the police or our families. If Jacob threatened Kura years ago using me, there's no doubt that he will do it again to us this time. What's more, Nile's PI discovered that Jacob Moore has a pretty big name in the underground. Scary thing was I dated a guy who had killed countless people both innocent and not.
“We’re just grateful that you understand us right now. Thank you but I hope you trust us with this.”
Our parents looked at each other in concern. I squeezed Tyler’s hand. He squeezed my hand in return and looked at me with a reassuring smile.
“We’ll get through this.” He mouthed. His words made me warm.
I wanted to say something back to him but my phone rang in the middle of it. All eyes were on me when I tried to get my phone. It was Nile and I eagerly answered it, forgetting to excuse myself.
“Nile-”
“We found something.”
