"Come on. I know you're more ruthless than that, Jupe." Jace taunts as he feigns lunging at me with his wooden training stick. I rushed my defence and crossed mine over his to keep it close to the floor. I smirked.
"I might be, but are you-"
I was cut off when Jace kicked my supporting leg out from under me, sending me hurling to the ground. He landed on top of me, but I quickly used my other foot to throw him off me and land a few feet away. I scrambled to my feet as Jace lay wincing on the floor of the training hall.
"Time out." He huffed his words, being winded he couldn't breathe very well.
I smirked and crouched next to him, "And what does that make the score?" I drawled to rile him up.
"7." He grumbled.
"To...?" I knew I'd be paying for this in about a week, but it was so worth it.
"1." He mumbled through gritted teeth.
"Thought so." I chirped before extending a hand to help him up.
He sighed and took it, I heaved him up, letting our hands stay woven together for longer than we had to. We broke apart and I started to laugh, the image of Jace's back hitting the floor at full speed making this victory particularly memorable, and significantly more enjoyable. He rolled his eyes and smirked at me as his stamina rune lit up, I flashed my cat's eyes and signature grin at him before we both ran towards each other. Round 9.
After another 3 or 4 rounds of me kicking Jace's ass all over the training hall, we finished our session and went to shower and clean up. Most of the dorms in the Institute were separated into women and men. I was the rare exception of being blessed with a dorm in the men's living quarters. I always made sure I had either Alec or Jace with me when I was making my way back to my room. While I hated the quarters I was in, the view from my window was enough to overpower that hatred.
I walked with Jace through the wood-panelled corridors of the church, in which the Institute was housed, we passed a group of other Shadowhunters making me very nervous. I latched my hand into Jace's as they went by, I heard their whistles and comments as they did so making me want to cry.
"Damn, that ass though."
"I'd hit that."
"I heard hybrids like it rough in bed."
I cringed and let a silent tear slip down my face. Jace had been attempting to control his anger, but when he noticed my tear he lost it. He spun around and grabbed on of them by the throat, pinning him harshly against the wall.
"What did you just say?" He spat in the boy's face.
"N-Nothin' man. I-I didn't say a-anythin'." The guy stuttered
I noticed Jace's grip begin to tighten more do that the man's face was starting to turn red from the lack of oxygen.
"Jace, let's go." I whispered, hoping he'd hear me and turn around. He didn't, blinded by his rage.
"Jace." I begged a little louder, still he didn't hear me.
"Dude, let him down! He's good!" One of the guy's friends shouted.
"JACE!" I yelled as loudly as I could. He turned to me with a curled upper lip, "Let's go." I told him.
He turned back to the guy and sneered in his face, "You call her that again and I'll make sure that you don't see so much as your angel rune." He growled.
I tugged on his free arm and Jace let him down, gasping for breath. The guy and his friends scampered away from us as Jace looked at the floor, I could - almost literally - feel the anger seething from him. I lifted his chin to make him look at me.
"I couldn't just let them talk about you like that." He murmured, his anger being overtaken by guilt.
"Thank you." I whispered.
He looked up at me with his brows knitted together, "Why?"
"Because no one has ever done that for the Warlock-Shadowhunter Hybrid." I said breathlessly.
"Well, I will. You're a Shadowhunter, and your eyes are beautiful." He smiled gently.
I let my cat eyes show and smiled, blushing before quickly realising how close our faces actually were and pulling away, thinking he wouldn't want to be with a hybrid. I closed my eyes, shaking my head and stepping back a little. Hurt flashed across Jace's features before his bad boy swagger returned to them. He smirked and rolled his eyes, wrapping an arm around my shoulders as we walked to my room. I laughed and rested my around his waist while we walked. We did the whole 'flirty friends' thing but never anything more.
We got to my room and I stepped into the bathroom to shower. I heard Jace land on my bed and begin to relax making me chuckle quietly to myself, I turned on the shower and started to peel my clothes off. I hadn't realised that I had left the door slightly ajar, I turned to put my clothes next to my door and saw Jace looking at my naked body through the crack of the door. His face contorted into shock before his eyes met mine and held my gaze. I moved back into the bedroom and stalked to him, his eyes stayed locked with mine.
I shuffled closer so that my stomach was level with his face, Jace looked up at me through the valley of my breasts. He rose to stand, towering over my shorter figure. He brushed the hair from my face and tucked it behind my ear, I looked into his eyes through my long lashes. The brown that fought with the blue of his left eye looked like fire and ice, in the dim lighting from my window overlooking New York. He snaked his arm around my waist so his big hands rested on the small of my back, pressing me firmly to his front side.
My hands rested on the back of his neck, lightly playing with the short hair that resided there. I took control and pressed my lips to his soft ones, his grip on my waist tightening slightly. Fireworks lit up in back of my mind, whizzing and sparking in the pit of my stomach before exploding around my heart. He moved his lips hungrily against my own, like a starved man finding water in the desert. I lost myself in how good I felt in that moment, how Jace made me feel, how I made Jace feel.
We pulled away and stared into each other's eyes questioning silently what this was between us, all the while neither of us saying what we had been feeling for months now. I broke the silence, albeit scared for the answer.
"What now?" I bit my lip.
"What do you want?" He asked hoarsely.
"You." I whispered.
"I want you too." He murmured.
"What about Clary?" I mumbled.
Jace sent himself flying backwards in realisation of what he was doing, all too aware that I was standing naked in front of him. I wrapped a blanket around myself to hide my self consciousness.
"What do you want, Jace?" Hurt laced my voice like poison does water.
"What?"
"What do you want!" I shouted, emphasising each word.
"You!" He yelled without thinking.
"Then earn me." I iterated, "Please leave." I asked quietly.
"Look Jupe-" He tried but I cut him off.
"-Leave Jace!" I commanded, throwing the door open without moving a muscle. My ice blue cat's eyes shone in my barely lit room.
"Leave." I whispered, barely inaudible.
He hung his head and left, I listened to his footsteps walk away before I let my facade break. I let the tears well up and slip down my cheeks, my eyes quickly becoming puffy and swollen. I let my emotions consume me and felt the hurt hit my chest like a ton of bricks. I collapsed onto my footer and let myself cry for a while before collecting myself.
There was a soft knock on the door, "Come in." I shouted - praying my voice didn't break enough to notice.
The door opened softly and Magnus came in, a knowing look on his face.
"Oh, Kitty." He cooed gently.
He sat next to me and letting me cry onto his shoulder. Magnus hugged me close and stroked my hair lightly in comfort.
