Minho and Sonya gently pushed Zara to lay down. White spots filled her sight as her eyelids got heavier. All the emotions came out now. Tears stung her eyes. She gasped for air. They were safe. She was safe. But someone was missing. Her chest cramped with him on her mind. She closed her eyes and felt herself go unconscious, knowing everything had really come to an end.
But one person who should've been there too, was not there. The boy who deserved better. The boy Zara had fallen for. And she was too late to tell him she loved him.
Minho stared at the sea. ''What happened to Ratman?''
Thomas stayed silence for a few seconds before he answered. ''Zara killed him.''
Minho's words were taken. He remained his gaze at the calm blue sea in front of them. For the past seven days, the only thing on his mind had been Newt. Every time his name popped up; he felt a sting in his heart. But he refused to show it, show that he was in pain. The trio had become a duo. And Zara, the girl that lost her soulmate and killed her own father. All his respect went out to her.
''She is brave.'' He finally stated in a soft voice.
He turned his head to see Thomas nodding slowly and looking down, darting his eyes to the ground. The boy swallowed. ''Yeah, she is.''
Minho stood up and patted Thomas' back in support. He had no words left to say to his best friend. Minho took in the sight of the sea in front of them one more time before he turned around and went to see if he could help with anything.
Thomas sighed and glanced up. The sounds of the calm waves, the people talking behind him and the wind through the trees did him good. Where they ended up really was paradise.
As soon as the Berg left the lost city seven days ago, Vince flew to the other side of the world to find this place, the place they'd made a new home. A home for the survivors all over the world, which were only 104 persons. Jorge and Brenda had radioed the news about the new place and within two days, boats and planes with people arrived. Dogs, cats, bunnies, horses, cows, pigs, all kind of creatures got new families and stables. The peace had returned. Everyone worked together to build their new homes in the village called: Safe Haven.
There was a medical tent for those who came back injured. Some had bullet wounds, two of them needed the Cure, which worked out great, a few had cuts from knifes or lost an arm or leg. Some were unconscious. And Zara was one of them. She had been sleeping for the past seven days. Her leg with the bullet had to be treated, such as the wound on her cheek which left behind two big cuts that covered her entire cheek. Thomas, Brenda, Minho and Jorge visited her every day and Thomas would sit next to her mattress for hours. He and Teresa were together, but Zara was the only one that brought him peace.
Sonya, Harriet and Aris were reunited again. They helped older people with their houses and made sure the whole village was provided with food. At night, they would sit by the fire and talk with their new friends.
Frypan had found his place in the kitchen of the village. He made delicious food and always put a smile on other people's faces.
Gally was the leader of the builders. They build the huts and houses for people who couldn't do it themselves. Most of them sang while working, others laughed and talked. Gally was mostly serious, as usual. But even he showed his social and funny side sometimes.
After all the sadness, anger, fear and hopelessness, that chapter had come to an end. Now, it was time to write a new story. The chapter of the survivors from the Flare and its effects.
