Ponyboy's P.O.V.

~Dream~
I walked to the lot. I hated the lot ever since Johnny died, but I had a feeling something was gonna happen. Something bad. As I was walking I saw the girl. I saw a Soc come up and tackle her. He started to talk to her and she started to cry I think. I tried to run over to help her, but I couldn't. I knew what was happening. I tried to yell, but I couldn't do that either. I stood there helpless watching what was happening.
~End of dream~

I woke up and sat up quickly. I looked  over at Soda who was snoring softly. I started to calm down until I heard voices downstairs. I listened and then they became screams. I ran down the stairs towards her room. She was crying. I walked into her room. "Hey, are you okay?" I asked. She nodded and smiled, but I could tell it was fake. I walked over to her and pulled her into a hug. She began to cry as I held her. I crawled into bed next to her and held her. I heard a thud and felt her jump. "Ponyboy." She whispered. "It's okay. I'm right here." I whispered back. Her breathing slowed and I knew she was asleep. I fell asleep shortly after.

I woke up and tried to get up without waking her. As soon as I stood up her head jerked up. She looked like she was ready to cry and I figured out why. "It's okay. I'm not gonna leave you. I just have to get ready to go to school." I said. She calmed down until the last sentence. I sighed and helped her out of bed. I walked into the kitchen with her right behind me. I got a bowl of cereal and sat down to eat. She just watched me. "You want something to eat?" I asked. She shook her head. I wondered when she ate last. I went to my room and got dressed. I came back down and said good bye to her. She grabbed my hand and followed me out of the house. I felt her grip tighten as I tried to let go. "Look I gotta go to school." I told her. She frowned and I remembered that no one would be home with her. "Go get something on and hurry up. She rushed into the house and came back wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I grabbed her hand and lead her to school.

We got home from school and I grabbed the mail. She hadn't let go of my hand all day except, of course, during class. I walked into the house with her gripping the back of my shirt. I looked through the mail and found one that was for Soda. I looked at the return address and the letter slipped from my hands. It was from the army in Veitnam.
