Ponyboy's P.O.V.
"Maybe next time you should think before you try and fix people who are broken into tiny pieces."
Her words rang in my ears. What did she mean? I stood up and walked downstairs.
"Belle. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have tried to tell you what you are. I....I just hate seeing you beat yourself up." I called. I heard a small sniffle from the kitchen. I walked towards it slowly and found her standing in front of the oven.
"Belle." I whispered. "Just stop Pony. It's not worth it. I'm not worth it." She said.
I felt my heart shatter.
"You're worth it more than you think." I said. She turned around and looked at me sternly. "No I'm not. I was stupid. I shouldn't have brought you along. I should have made you go back and stay away from me." She said.
"No you shouldn't have. I'm happy right here. I'm fine as long as I'm with you." I said. She turned to the stove and stared at it.
She turned very suddenly and rushed to the cabinets. "Dammit." She muttered. "What?" I asked. "There's no food." She whispered. "Oops. I was gonna have you stop so we could get some." I said softly.
She turned on me and walked very close to me. "You forgot the one thing that we need most?" She asked. "Maybe." I squeaked. Her eyes narrowed and she pressed against me. "I swear Ponyboy. You make me so mad." She whispered.
I felt her breath on my lips and I shivered. "Are you cold?" She asked. "Maybe." I whispered. She smiled as she realized what was wrong.
"I can warm you up. Would you like that?" She asked. I nodded and she leaned up. Our lips almost touched, but she pulled back and walked away.
I stood there for a moment completely confused. I looked up and stared at the hallway she had gone down and chuckled.
"Very funny Belle. I fell for it." I called. "Oh did you now?" She asked. "Yeah I did. Now what's wrong with you?" I called. "Oh I don't know. Maybe it's the fact that I shouldn't be here with you." She said. I walked down the hallway and found her staring at a door.
"Pony what's behind that door?" She asked. "I don't know. I figured it was just another room." I said. She walked over and turned the knob. When she tugged it didn't open. She tugged again and still nothing happened.
"Don't just stand there." She said. I came over and tugged on the door. I pulled until I heard a creak. I tugged again as hard as I could and it swung open.
She ran inside the room and gasped. "What?" I asked. "Come look at this!" She shouted. I ran in and found her gaping at a piano.
She circled it a few times and examined it. She dusted of the bench and sat down. I helped her open it and she slid her fingers over the top of the keys. "I used to play all the time." She whispered. "You did?" I asked.
"Yeah. I loved to play. Until my parents said it was useless." She said, whispering the last part. "What did they say?" I asked.
"They said I was never going to be good and I might as well quite before I think I'm getting better." She muttered. "Play something." I said.
She looked up at me with huge eyes. "O-Okay. I can try." She said. She pulled open the bench and found some sheet music. She did a few warm-up first to make sure she knew where the keys were.
"Okay. I know this one." She said, pointing to one of the sheets. I looked and saw it was Amazing Grace. "Go for it." I said.
She took a deep breath and looked down. "I...I can't." She said. "What!?" I shouted. "I can't do it." She said. "Yes you can Belle. You may not sound as good as you did a few years ago, but you should still sound pretty good." I argued.
She nodded and took another deep breath. She stared at the music and, finally, her fingers began to move. It was graceful and smooth. She finished with only one small mistake. I began to clap.
"That was great." I said. She smiled and blushed as she looked at her hands. "Thanks. Maybe we should go get some food though." She said. I agreed and we left the house.
