August's p.o.v.

Sonoma Valley, California

I sighed as Henry put me on the ground, wincing as my leg hit the ground.

Henry said softly, " I'm sorry little one. I'll look for a suitable branch for a stilt for you."

I looked at him in disgust, and said, "It's called a crutch, a stilt is something someone's uses for a parlor trick."

Henry threw his hands up in resignation and walked into the forest.

I sighed as I laid down in the grass, liking the feeling of it tickling my neck. The birds chirping in the trees, with the soft sound of the crickets making me feel serene.

I closed my eyes for a second, thinking it was an okay time to relax.

A sudden poke at my leg told me otherwise.

I groaned and opened my eyes, saying, "Henry, I told you to-"

The words caught in my throat, terror filling my body.

Another one of those, those creatures was staring at me, his big blue eye looking at me curiously.

I tried to speak, but nothing could come out.

I stared up at the cyclops as it stood up, raising a club to his head.

The scream never left my throat as he swung it down.

I closed my eyes and braces myself for it, embracing the terrible feeling in my stomach.

I heard a stomp to my right, followed by a battle cry.

Suddenly, everything stopped, the birds no longer chirped, the crickets stopped their symphony.

I dared to open one eyes, and stared in shock at the scene above me.

The cyclops club was right in front of my face, it was inches away from me.

Henry was too far way to help, only halfway to me, a rock that looked like hardened mud being thrown from his hand.

A twig snapped to my right, making my head dart towards it.

That same boy from before walked into the clearing, the scar on his face making his face look miserable.

"My, my, what a pickle we have here. It'd be a shame if time just....continued."

I gulped and said in a shaky voice, " So you stopped them. Why? Why save me?"

The boy looked at me with a twisted smile, but his eyes showed some warmth in them.

" Why, because I wish to help you of course. Tell me, and be honest. "

He sat down next to me criss cross, his arms resting on his lap.

" What have the gods ever done for you to help you? To show you a sign for anything? Truly think on that, I am not trying to sway you, yet. "

I started to think about it, and it made me feel bitter. They've done nothing for me. They did nothing to help me. I struggled for years, my mother is dead. My father nearly killed me, traumatized me, and I have nothing to show for it.

I grit my teeth hard, and said hesitantly, "Nothing."

The boy smiled in triumph, and held his hand out, saying, " If you accept my offer, I will restore your leg for you. Unlike the gods, who can perform miracles, but don't, will make sure you are taken care of. After all, I know how you feel. My parents weren't exactly the nicest."

I tilted my head and said, "What did they do? "

The boy smiled and said, " For another day, little one. Do you accept my offer?"
