August p.o.v.
I waited for the blade to hit me, but it never came.
I opened my eyes and looked around, feeling pretty confused.
I was in a small white room, a single chair in front of me.
A woman's voice behind me, making me jump, said in a hard voice, " Sit, child. "
I turned around and found no one, perplexing me.
I slowly walked over to the chair and sat down.
I blinked, and suddenly, I saw her. She was a smaller woman, probably about 5' 10" or so; she had short, curly black hair and golden eyes. She was wearing a small white dress, but it suddenly morphed into a biker jacket and some blue jeans.
" I hate being portrayed like that. Which ever mortal decided I should be in a dress will pay. "
I blinked, and said, " Who are you? "
The woman gave me a sick, twisted smile, and said, " I am Nemesis, the Goddess of Balance and Retribution. Or as Percy once called me, I'm just a Goddess of Revenge, and nothing more. "
August paled and said, " Why are you here then? Why am I here? "
Nemesis snapped her fingers, making a chair pop into existence in front of her.
She turned it around and sat down on it, lazily hanging her arms over the top.
" You have a choice to make here. You are the thin line between retribution, or balance. "
She held up both hands, making me get a bit nervous.
"The left, the fall of the gods, predated to happen eventually. Everything in life sooner or later bites the dust. We Gods are no exception. "
" The right, the Gods are torn down from their thrones, the Titans rule all, and all of our world as we know it will disappear, along with everything man has accomplished. "
She lowered her hands, saying, " It's a hard choice, but you have to choose one. An eye for eye, as my children so lovingly like to say. Everything comes at a price. "
I blinked at her, and said in a small voice, " Those are my only options? "
Nemesis gave a dry laugh, and said, " There are many options that you could try. But most will lead to this outcome. The reality is everything rests on your shoulders August Nightingale. It's a tough responsibility, but sometimes that's just how the cards fall. "
I stared at the ground, tears welling up in my eyes.
" I see you aren't quite ready for something like this. Unfortunately, for you mortals, you're life is short. You must make harsh decision in order to ensure your own survival. We Gods cannot help much. But sometimes exceptions can be made. "
I looked up at her, bewildered, then looked at her outstretched hand.
" Take my hand, child, and you will become my champion. I shall lend you my power, in order to make the balance right. But every choice has a consequence. Be sure you can stomach that choice. "
" Why would you allow me to become your champion? What do you have to gain? "
Nemesis gave me a sick grin again, and said, " Those who are very fortunate and very lucky deserve to be torn down from their high horse. Don't you agree? Think of your father, think of Zeus, of Kronos, of all the Titans. Those are incredibly blessed with luck and fortune will eventually have a bad luck streak. All's fair, I say. "
I looked up at her, then slowly grabbed her hand, shaking it.
I gasped in pain, my hand suddenly searing in pain.
