(These next couple chapters still need to be re-written and re-polished, so there'll be rough/older/less experienced writing from here on out until chapter 11/12)
You awoke to the sounds of low murmuring.
Ethan was leaning against the table, eyes narrowing as he read some notes he had collected so far. There were two crests on the table next to him, along with his guns and a few clips. His blonde hair looked messy and wet, some hairstrands clung to eachother and fell over his eyebrows.
He must've been back from some time outside.
The wound on your stomach felt decently healed. You ran your fingers over your dress to feel the bandage underneath. He had done it carefully, something that was not the case with his own hand. But you suppose it's because it was done in haste.
"Hey, good, you're up." Ethan began, not looking up to you as he remained his eye-contact on the notes. He shifted through them once more.
You got up and rubbed your eyes.
"What are those? Did you find something about Rose?"
You walked over to him. Ethan sighed before handing you the notes, running his hand through his hair and slicking back some wet strands. "No, just this. I don't get it. It's just a bunch of jumbled mess."
Frowning, you took the letters in hand and read the first one as Ethan crossed his arms. Curiously peeking over your shoulder as he awaited your reaction.
You straightened the note out and began reading.
Dear Eldrith,
What would the town think of you? Offering up a child like that.
I know you must be ashamed, but I write this as a reminder that I do not blame you for your actions.
What has been done is done. Your body is drenched in sin now, and I hasten you to cleanse yourself.
Before you get caught, before this will end like we have both been fearing.
One must pay the price, and I hope you can find peace with the fact that we shall be free, at last.
It just takes one sacrifice.
And you've given me that opportunity.

You put the note back on the table and met his questioning eyes.
"Well... looking at the date up here—" You began,
"It couldn't have been about Rose." He finished. You hummed as he knitted his eyebrows, lost in thought.
"I'm heading to the castle today."
"Today? Well I'm coming with-"
He shook his head. "No. You're staying here." The words of Elena had haunted his thoughts ever since.
'That place is full of blood and death.'
"What are you talking about—? I can help look out for you, assist your mission. I'm going." Ethan opened his mouth to protest before you cut him off yet again. "No. Do not say anything. I'm coming with you. That's it." You concluded with crossed arms.
