"I got bit."

...

The silence that followed was harrowing. Sickening.

When did it happen? You thought? That's when the memory popped up.

- Your arm was suddenly grabbed by a beast who had snuck up from behind, a cuss left your throat as you winced in pain, tearing yourself away from it and finishing the lycan with a blow to it's skull. -

You remembered.

Through the sounds of linen being ripped, you could already feel that that wasn't the only thing being torn. When you winced in pain, it wasn't because his nails dug into your arm-no, you winced because it's teeth dug into your flesh.

When it happened, your heart dropped. Panic and fear rushed through your veins while you fought it off.

And when you tore your arm away, all you could think was: "Wait. Wait! Wait, no. No. No, no! I got bit. I got bit. I got bit. Holy shit. I got bit."

The blaring alarm bells in your brain drowned out the pain. You couldn't even focus on the sensation of flesh being torn off by the lycan when you yanked your arm away.

The sting of panic was stronger.

It pierced your throat. It pierced your ears. It pierced your whole body. For a moment, it felt like the entire world had gone to mush. Your mind and thoughts became hazy, and you staggered around, lazily lifting up your arm to point at it's head.

When you pulled the trigger, you couldn't quite hear that deafening bang that always startled you.

On the contrary.

You couldn't hear a single thing.

Was that the infection setting in? Or was your mind trying to create a state of ecstasy and bliss in an attempt to accept your fate?

When it's body fell on the ground, you looked around. Ethan had slayed the gaint beast at the same time.

You took a deep breath and turned away from him. You had to be sure.

And when you pulled your sleeve up.

You understood that you were a goner.

...

Now you had shown Ethan.

Your companion sucked in his breath.

He grabbed your arm and pulled the linen fabric up as far as possible. He didn't believe it. Didn't want to believe this was real. Life had to be fucking with him, something about this had to be fake. Right?!

His face fell at the sight of teeth-indents. An irritated red hue surrounded the swollen area, blood trickling from the mark in steady streams.

Ethan swept his palm across the bite mark with a shaky hand, biting back the sensation of tears forming in his eyes.

No, this was real.

His mind flashed back to the docks. Back at Moreau's place:

"I've lost a lot of people, (....). Nearly everyone I come in contact with.. ends up dying on me."

You watched him in silence. The heartbreak in his tone sending you to watch the snow beneath your feet instead.

He suddenly grabbed your hand, thumbs running through the lines of your palm as he fidgeted with your fingers. They were rather delicate compared to his. "I won't let that happen to you." He sighed, curling your fingers into a ball before enveloping your closed fist into his large palm. "We're... staying together, right?"
