...

Soft crispers from the dying fire across the room gently woke you.

You raised your eyelids with weak flutters and looked out of the window next to the bed you were laying in. The disappearing moon was weakly looming in the clouds, as midnight had started to shift away.

"Y/n." A voice from across the room called out. You turned around in the soft bed with a groan, pulling the warm bed sheets closer. The night from before was way too hazy, and since you had just woke, you didn't remember much. "I'll get out soon..."

Hurried footsteps against the stone floor headed towards the bed.

"Hey wake up."
Ethan quickly tugged away your bedsheets to find a place to sit- but quickly put them back when he was greeted by your barely clothed body.

You froze in place from the cold air briefly hitting your bare skin- before the memories from a few hours ago collapsed straight back into your mind. With wide eyes you looked up at him. "What did we--?"

It didn't take any more words for Ethan to read the oncoming confusion and realization written across your newly awakened face.

"Y/n wait..." He placed his bandaged hand on your shoulder and looked at you with a frown. "I know how confused you are and trust me, I am too."

You propped your palms on the mattress and slowly got up into a sitting position, still dazed from the events from the evening. Ethan seemed quite distressed himself, as if he had just found something out that you didn't have a clue about. He was tapping his shoe impatiently on the floor, and he had his jacket on already.

"You should get dressed. We need to make our way to the duke."
His tone was edged, and it made the million questions you already had in your mind pile up even more. You blanky stared at him, still confused by the sudden hurry.
"Like right now." He added.

Your eyes followed him around as he stood up from the bed and picked up one of the duffle bags from across the room. "Okay.."

"I found some clothes for you when I was out last night. I think they should fit." He walked back to the bed and dropped the heavy duffle bag next to you. "Here."

"Thanks." You couldn't hide the lingering tension behind your voice, and he couldn't help but notice it either. It seemed like he didn't want to talk about the night though, so you zipped the bag open and grabbed a few clothes out in silence.

Ethan had been fidgeting with his wedding ring like he always did when he was nervous. But for this one time, you acted like you didn't notice.

"I'll be getting dressed then." You made clear, vocally tapping him out of his daydreaming.

"-right."

He tensely turned away from you and walked over to kneel at the fireplace. "I made some coffee."
The thick atmosphere in the room was basically choking you.
"Do you want some?"

You pulled a distressed white robe out of the bag and inspected it with skeptic eyes.
"Is it good? I never had it before.."

Ethan quietly chuckled and turned his head around. "I think it's an acquired taste for sure."

He stood up with two steaming cups and walked over to you. "But you can always try it out."

You gave him a nod and pulled the white robe over your head. "Alright then, let's try it." With cautious hands you grabbed the steaming cup out of his hands, wincing at the heat almost burning your fingers. "It's hot-!"
