Chapter XXIV.
Wordcount: 379920 minutes later// Location: Ethan's special path, Village.
"Why are we going this way?"
Your question floated through the mystical night sky, the moon especially apparent. This path was cut away from the chaotic village, moreso inclined to the borders of it, a lonesome ledge overlooking the cold landscape beneath your eyes. It was a beautiful sight.
Endless planes of white blinding snow stretched across the many acres of land below the path of this cliff. Stars were dotting the entire sky, shining brilliantly against the velvety abyss besides them.
After you were hit by the beauty of this path, your question lost its importance. No longer were you asking why you were going this way, but rather why you never did go this way before.
As if he knew what you were thinking, Ethan turned his gaze up at the sky. "I wanted to walk this path with you and Rose, after we'd be done with this place. Kinda..." A frown appeared on his features, dragging his face down towards the snow being crunched under his shoes. "Kinda like a send-off, a final walk back home that shows us 'hey, all you've been doing was worth it.' --That going home won't remind us about the shitty state of this place."
There wasn't much you could say to that, so you remained quiet.
"--You do want to come home with me, right?" A stutter interrupted his sentence. "I- well, I don't want to force you it's just-"
You hurried in front of him and blocked his path, face now mirroring his as you stood in front of him. His eyebrows shot up and drew together in confusion, mouth still parted. A hint of worry flashed on his face. Were you tired of his questions?
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to push you-"
"Ethan."
"Huh?"
He nearly jumped when he felt two cold hands smudge his cheeks together. Soon he was swayed back and forth, his hands immediately grasping your wrists to stop this assault. "Whaf arw yu-"
"Will you stop being so, so, silly?" You asked, each word ending with a sway forth and the next starting with a sway back. You continued shaking him around with a tone laced in a mix of humor and annoyance. Sure, Ethan was indeed a lot taller than you, but the possibility of easily grabbing his head while on your toes was no challenge. Mostly because he dropped his guard to 0% when engaging in idle banter on the road. "I don't have a home here."
And with that you let him go, nearly causing him to fall back into the snow from your sudden release.
"You're the only one I got left."
Wow, that sounded a lot more saddening than you'd think. Killing the mood was the last thing you wanted to do. You quickly bent down and scooped a hand full of snow. "You're the only one unfortunate enough to be standing on my left, too."
Paf!
"Headshot! Whooo! Full-stop, no mercy!" The clouds of condense hid your mirth covered face and you immediately pivoted on your heels to run away from your snow-caked companion.
The wind blew into your face as the branches from the edge-curved trees made way for your sprinting form, footsteps digging into the crystal path, breaths heavy and smile arrogantly wide. It was a little quiet though, a little too quiet. You thought of turning around but immediately discarded of the idea, for you'd most likely be jumped by your playful pursuer. Well, that is if he'd be playful. If you were in his shoes you'd have thrown yourself over the cliff you were currently running upon from the start.
