...And Ethan was gone.
Before you could respond the footsteps started to patter up the dark path even faster. You nearly bit on your tongue from the startle- and quickly turned around to slam the door shut. Your heart was hammering in your chest as you began quickly tampering with the circlets so the door would lock itself-
The red light above the main doors shone down on you sharply, acting as the only light source in the complete dark.
You trailed your wet fingers over the brass medallion and clammed your nails around it. A strong burst thundered against the door- shooting harsh vibrations through your bones. Come on! Don't be so stubborn! With a final jank the brass medallion clicked out of the door- causing the lock to immediately set back in.
Loud banging and the horrible smell of rotting flesh behind the door in front of you, had you backing up immediately.
And suddenly, it had become quiet.
Your heart could be heard thundering in your skull from the sudden silence, and you shoved the medallion in your satchel. It's not getting out of that cave anytime soon.
You turned around and felt the harsh realization of Ethan's absence setting in. You remembered how he had been waving around, telling you to come back up before that... noise struck. What was that? It sounded loud, like something had broken in two.
You quietly called out his name with a low voice, still conscious of whatever was lurking back in the cave. With squinted eyes you darted around the dark red lit room, hoping to catch sight of him, hoping to hear any reply. But alas, nothing. Where did you go...
The grip on the keys in your hands tightened as you began following the bloody trail dragging through the red lit room. The fear of it being Ethan's started to creep into your mind.
Anyone but him. He was the only one you had left, and to think of him... "No." You affirmed quietly. "Just hold on, I'll find you."
Audible scratches and gut wrenching noises started to ghost against the locked puzzle door behind you again. The putrid smell of rotting flesh and old water began snaking it's way into your nose. It wanted to get out.
The dark made it difficult to navigate the room without knocking into anything- but you managed to hurry over to the the door leading to the extension of workshop.
You pushed the handle down with wet fingers and swung the door open. Heart hammering in your chest and eyes darting around, a glint of hope surged through you when you noticed an opened locker's door. Ethan?
You quickly hollered over and peeked inside, heart beating in hope,
Only to be met with a hollow inside.
Suddenly, a stumbling long shadow from behind stretched onto the wooden floor in front of you. With hitched breaths you immediately yanked your body around-
But there was nothing.
A single bead of sweat started to roll down your forehead. Were you imagining things? You lightened your clutch on the keys and walked over to the door. With wet hands you pushed the handle down, resulting in a long creak when waving the door open.
There was a long, narrow, and dark hallway in front of you. "The candles must be at the end of the hall somewhere..."
You didn't waste any time and fully pushed yourself through the door, running through the pitch black halls as loud creaks behind you seemed to follow. While picking up your run to a full on sprint, you reached into your swinging satchel. The medallion was still there. The creature couldn't have been behind you- the door was locked! Right-? It was dark, and the lack of a flashlight was getting painfully clearer by the minute. You needed to find a light, and quick.
