It had been around an hour since the final trials of the Dauntless initiation had finished and the initiates were anxiously trying to keep themselves busy as the time for the rankings came closer and closer.
Annabelle was walking along one of the many corridors of the compound when she heard a voice calling her name.
Recognising it immediately she turned around and found herself face to face with Peter Hayes.
"Are you scared of me?" He asked bluntly. No 'How are you?' 'How was your fear landscape?' and other tedious questions like Annabelle was expecting.
"No, what's there to be scared of," She said, looking up at Peter, whose eyes were obviously full of conflict. "Why would you ever think that?"
She had a small idea on why he might've thought that and her idea was proved correct when Peter responded, "You yelled my name, why did you yell my name?" He clenched his jaw as if all the possibilities of what Annabelle was going to say next was passing through his brain. As if he was scared for the answer the girl was about to give him.
"I'm not scared of you,"
"Belle-" His voice was harsh, it was demanding, he needed a straight answer and he needed it now. He wasn't going to leave it alone, the thought that Peter had screwed up so bad that Anna was scared of him would haunt him if he didn't.
"I'm scared of what you'll do," She cut him off, "I'm scared of the lengths you'll go to, I'm scared that if I do one thing you don't like, I'll be the next person you throw into the chasm."
"You know I'd-"
"You're fucked up Peter," Anna said, once again not letting him finish. She didn't care for what else he could possibly say.
They stared in silence before Annabelle nodded, knowing her words had at least sunk in a little bit, and walked away, heading to the dormitories where she knew everyone would be.
She would never let him know that her scream wasn't due to his actions of nearly pushing her into the chasm, but the fact he fell in himself. After all she didn't know why him falling to his death had affected her so much - and she didn't plan on finding out.

It was time. Time to find out if they'd made it into Dauntless. If they'd passed initiation. If they had what it takes. The feeling of nerves was unanimous between the initiates, Dauntless-Born and transfer alike, the stakes had never been this high, how would it feel to get this far yet not make the final cut?
It was that which Anna dreaded. The feeling that she'd done well up until one point which ultimately lead to her demise and the ruination of her future in a faction.
That's why as she stood in the - at the banquet with Tris, Christina and Will, waiting for the results that would determine all of their futures, Annabelle couldn't bring herself to get involved with the conversation of which jobs they might pick, or where Tris had went. A microphone squealed gaining the attention if everyone currently in the dining hall, and Eric stood up on a table.
"We aren't big on speeches here. Eloquence is for Erudite." he said, causing the crowd to laugh despite the tense nature of their gathering. "So I'm going to keep this short. It's a new year and we have a pack of new initiates. And a slightly smaller pack of new members. We offer them our congratulations." An applause erupted from the crowd and fists began to bang on the tables. Annabelle couldn't help but bring a grin to her face as she looked at her friends who smiled also.
"We believe in bravery. We believe in taking action. We believe in freedom from fear and in acquiring the skills to force the bad out of our world so that good can prosper and thrive. If you also believe in those things we welcome you." The pounding returned and whoops could be heard throughout the room. Annabelle doubted they were the actual values of Dauntless and of Eric himself though. He continued, "Tomorrow, in their first act as members, out top ten initiates will choose their professions, in order of how they are ranked. Said rankings are determined by a combination of the scores from the combat stage of training, the simulation stage and the final examination. These rankings will appear behind me,"
As soon as the words leave his mouth, a list of names appears on the screen behind him.
4. Annabelle
All the previous tension and nerves left Annabelle as she scanned the list and saw her name. She didn't even have time to register the rest of the list before she was picked up and spun around. A laugh left her lips as she faced Uriah. "You're never getting rid of me now," She said as he put her down.
"On second thought, I'm not that excited anymore." He said, lighting pushing the girl away, who only scoffed at him. Annabelle looked back at the ranking to fully take into account where everyone had placed.
"Ugh, I didn't beat you," Annabelle laughed, looking at Uriah who was about to reply when Christina came running towards her.
"You did beat Peter though, hopefully that will sort his ego out," She said, pulling Anna into a hug laughing in her ear and saying, "makes up for you failing our prank,"
Annabelle pulled out of the hug, giving Christina a look as if to say, me?, before looking over her shoulder and seeing Tris. "Tris! Congratulations!" Tris looked over from Uriah and reached out to Annabelle to pull her closer and into a hug.
"We made it," Tris said, "We beat them,"
"I knew we would," The pair remained in a hug, basking in the glory of proving themselves and making it into Dauntless. "I'm proud of us,"
Annabelle looked across the crowd of celebrating people and spotted someone she really wanted to talk to. She excused herself from her friends and made her way over to him. "Two years without you was enough, you better start hanging out with me now,"
"How could I say no? After all now you really can give someone a good punch," Annabelle grinned and pulled her friend into a hug not caring if anyone saw. He returned the hug, happy his friend was finally back by his side.
"I'm going to congratulate Tris," He said pulling away with a light smile. Annabelle's eyes widened in confusion as she followed Tobias figure as he walked up to Tris. When Tris leaned up and pecked Tobias on the lips. Anna's shock took over and she walked up them.
"I'm offended neither of you told me!'
