The following morning

Shane

"He did what!" I gaped at Paul, due to the incident that occurred last night that I missed.

Paul raised his eyebrows and nodded as he said, "yeah I know, it's not like him right? What could make him attack Kevin like that? The guys have been practically inseparable for years now". I shook my head in utter disbelief , "I don't know" I replied.

" Ah, they'll probably be friends again by the end of tonight anyhow" Paul assured me, as he opened up his laptop, his attention focused on the screen. I nodded in agreement, when we then  heard a high pitch voice shout, "No way! Really? ".

I turned to look over the kitchen counter to see all the girls in deep conversation. " I'm guessing Amy's told them?" I say raising my brow. Paul smiled softly at me and replied, “ more than likely, I’m surprised she didn’t tell them all last night. You know what Amy’s like “.

" Where is Michael now anyway? " I ask in curiosity.

Paul shrugged.

"Shane? Can I talk to you for a minute?" A feminine voice spoke softly towards me. I turned around to see Ava standing on the opposite side of the counter. I nodded to Paul furthermore drawing a line in our conversation, as I proceeded to push myself off the couch and make my way towards Ava.

"Are you ok?" I ask her, holding her by her shoulders and looking into her eyes. She gave me a warm smile and nodded.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" I ask her curiously.

She looked around for a minute and grabbed my hand and led me upstairs. We entered our room. Our room, I smiled at the thought . Was the thought a little cheesy? I question myself, but shook my head. Maybe I’m getting too far ahead of myself in this, she might not even like me that much it’s only been a matter of weeks too early to determine anything strong and holding as of yet. She quickly shut the door behind us.

"I'm really worried" she says quickly, panic suddenly surging in her eyes.

"Why?, what's wrong? " I ask her, walking closer to comfort her. I could hear muffled shouting coming from downstairs, but I had ignored it to try to keep my focus completely on her. She looked shaken up, her eyes were wide and alert, she kept her arms crossed finding nothing to do with them or perhaps to compose herself.  Her voice was quite stained as she spoke, " I- I need to tell you something but you can't tell-" the bedroom door opened rapidly with Paul griping the handle as he urged towards me, " Shane you need to come and sort Michael out man, he's still mad from what happened last night" Paul informed me urgently.

I nodded and looked to Ava, before giving her a quick kiss on the cheek and whispered in reassurance, " We'll talk later ok? Whatever it is, we can sort it out" . She nodded and looked away, avoiding my eyes. It hurt me, practically crushing my heart to see her upset but I needed to sort Michael out before everything gets out of hand. At that note, Paul stated, “ We best go, we don’t want another melt down like last night mate”. I nodded, hurrying out the room with him as I look back to Ava and gave her a warm smile. Only to have a half hearted smile in return.

Ava

54 minutes earlier...

I had awoken to find a small, petite silver wrapped box on Shane's pillow beside me. I smiled at the thought of his sweet gesture and reached over to open the box. I never took him for the romantic type, he probably thought it was best to give it to me today after the events that have occurred the previous night. Ah well, a new morning, a new start I guess. All my worries just faded away as my smile widened, sitting up and pulling the lid off of this tiny box.  As I gazed down upon the contents in the box, my heart stopped. My face turned as pale as my eyes grew wide with horror. My hands shook and I reached down to find a note, along-side it, neatly folded into a tiny piece of paper. The box held a necklace, it had a black pendant with silver diamonds entwining with the silver that twirling and attached itself to the pendant.. it had belonged to my great grandmother and was passed on down to me from my mother.Tears started to form in my eye,s as I battled against them to prevent them to fall, although they betrayed me as well as my fear and consumed me as they slid sharply down my cheek. This was the same necklace that we keep in the safe under my mothers bed. I felt sick, my stomach was turning with the realisation that this so called ‘gift’ was not in fact from Shane.I gathered up all of my courage and choked back a sob as I picked up the note and read the message;
