The fight

An hour went by and Steve and I were back at Hawkins High. We had breakfast on a small bakery and then we just drove around. Nothing too scandalous.

Steve and I were walking to our lockers when we heard two girls talking.

"Did you see Billy and Rafe's fight this morning?"

"Oh, yeah! Billy crushed Rafe."

I immediately looked Steve with wide eyes.

"Did you hear what I heard?" I asked him.

"If you heard that Billy kicked Rafe's ass than, yes. I heard the same as you." He said shaking his head. "I may not like Hargrove, but the guy deserved it."

"I gotta go find him, I'll see you later!" I said turning away from Steve.

I could not believe this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad at Billy, not at all! I just find it strange that he cares enough to beat Rafe up. But then again, maybe he just likes fighting around and this just gave him a small reason to. I wanted to find Billy just to make sure he was alright. And also, I want to hear the details first handed.

Now, if I was Billy Hargrove, where would I be?

As soon as this thought ran through my mind, I see Billy inside an empty classroom, sitting on a desk, holding a bag of ice on his eyebrow. I quickly made my way towards the classroom. He noticed me as I was walking in.

"Where were you this morning, princess?" He asked teasingly.

"I could ask you the same thing, Cali." I said smirking back at him.

"You should've been here. Missed a hell of a show." He said as I was making my way towards him.

"So I've heard." I said placing myself in the middle of his legs so I could take a better look at his face. His left eyebrow was cut, and so was his lip. He had a purple bruise right under his right eye and had a bit of dry blood under his nose. He saw me analyzing his face and chuckled.

"You should've seen the other guy." He said proudly.

"Why did you do it?" I asked him softly. His humorous expression was quickly replaced with a cold one. I saw him tense up immediately.

"He deserved it." He spat looking down.

"I know, I'm not saying he didn't. I just want to understand why you did it." I explained.

"There are some things that aren't meant to be understood." He said as if he was talking about himself.

"Just tell me, Billy. Please." I said with begging eyes. He finally looked up at me and took a deep breath before his angry eyes met mine.

"I did it because he deserved it." He said once again. I was about to give up when he kept going. "Once I saw him, the first thing I remembered was the look on your face when I got to the bathroom. All I could remember was how scared you were, how shaky you were. He abused you and I did not like it. No one's aloud to do that to you ever. Ever." He said honestly, which surprised me. Did he really care about me?

"Thank you." I said caressing his bruised cheek, after taking a deep breath. "Thank you for everything. If it wasn't for you last night... I don't know what I would've done." I said looking at him with teary eyes, which took him by surprise. He clearly wasn't the type of guy to deal with emotions, that was noticeable.

I don't know what came over me, but I what felt right. I hugged him. I felt him tense under my arms, until he hesitantly wrapped his arms around me.
