"Do you want me to take my car?" I asked Billy as he rolled his window down.
He looked me in the eye and smirked. "Hop on! Max, in the back!" He said giving her a stern look. She was about to object, but I cut her off.
"No way. Why on Earth would you make her go in the back? She was there first. Just leave the poor girl alone." I told him, earning a thankful smile from Max.
"Max..." He taunted, completely ignoring me. Max groaned and walked out of the car. Before she could get in the back, I placed myself in front of her.
"You don't need to go in the back if you don't want to." I told her, and she smiled at me.
"It's okay, Mavis." She said, trying to make me feel better.
"Are you sure? Because really, it's no problem-" I said but was cut off by her.
"I'm sure, Mavis. That way it's only you that has to deal with him in the front." She said smiling.
"Huh... smart girl." I said smiling back at her, before we made our way into the car.
The car ride was silent. You could say that there was no noise besides Billy's rock music playing. He does have a good music taste, not gonna lie.
We finally reached his place. As soon as we arrived Max ran inside and locked herself up in her room. I on the other hand, took those seconds to analyze his house. The living room, the kitchen, it was all pretty clean.
"Where do you wanna do it?" I asked him, as he was putting his jacket on a chair.
"Now? I would prefer my bedroom, you know, to make sure Max doesn't hear us." He said walking towards me.
"Ew, no, not that! The report." I said rolling my eyes at him. Is that seriously the only thing this boy thinks about?
"Calm down, I was just joking." He said humored. "We can do it here." He said pointing at his dining table. He walked towards the table and sat on a chair. He looked at me and slapped the other chair twice as if he was telling me to sit down, laughing. Oh what a long hour I still had ahead of me.
I was so surprised.
The first 10- or 15-minutes Billy was really pissing me off, not paying attention to anything, or making jokes about us getting together, you know, the usual. But then, something in that little pea brain of his must've clicked because he actually did some work. No, I swear, I'm not kidding! He was doing his part and was actually doing a really good job at it too. Whenever he wanted to say something, he would always point out important points that sometimes even I was unaware of.
"I can't believe it's done!" I said letting my pencil fall down to my paper, while letting out a relived breath.
"Yeah, finally." He said lighting up a cigarette.
"You're actually pretty smart, Cali." I said, surprised.
"Did you think I was dumb, princess?" He asked me while playing with the cigarette on his lips.
"Do you really want me to answer that?" I asked him, raising an eyebrow, making him laugh and shake his head.
"You're something else, Henderson." He said amused.
"Why? Because I'm not throwing myself at you?" I asked him.
"Exactly." He stated, making me roll my eyes. I then looked at the time. 4:50pm. Shit. I was late.
"Well, this was fun and all, but I have to get going." I said getting up.
"You thought this was fun?" He asked me, blowing the smoke away.
"No." I said giving him a sarcastic smile. I started to walk towards the door when I remembered that since I hadn't brought my car, Billy had to take me home. Great. I turned around and he was already looking at mw with a knowing smile.
"You forgot I was going to drive you home, didn't you?" He asked me with that stupid smirk of his.
"Yes." I said trying not to sound embarrassed at all.
"Let's go then, princess." He said blowing out his cigarette before walking towards me.
I walked towards Max's room and knocked on the door.
"Come in!" She said from inside. I opened the door and saw her laying on her bed, painting her skateboard.
"I just wanted to say bye, Max!" I said smiling and waving at her. She looked up at me and smiled.
"Bye, Mavis!" She said waving before I closed the door.
"Let's go." Billy said exiting the house, walking towards his car. Wow, such a gentleman.
I followed him and got inside his car.
The trip was quite going calmly until one of my favorite songs started playing. Crocodile rock by Elton John. (play song now)
"I remember when rock was young, Me and Suzie had so much fun" I started to sing along quietly, while my fingertips played the rhythm of the song against my legs.
"Wow, you like this?" Billy asked me, shocked.
"Duh. It's just one of the best songs of all time." I said defensively.
He was going to say something but stopped to sing along with me.
"But the biggest kick I ever got,
was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock.
While the other kids were rocking round the clock,
we were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock."
We sang loudly. I stared at him a few seconds shocked.
"Why are you so shocked?" He asked me, laughing. "I asked you if you liked the song, I never said I didn't." He explained smirking at me.
"I don't know, honestly. I just didn't picture you as an Elton John fan." I said shrugging my shoulders.
"And I'm not. I just like some of his rock songs, that's about it." He told me.
"Fair enough." I said before starting to sing with him again.
As soon as the music ended, I realized something. Maybe Billy Hargrove wasn't as bad as I thought. Maybe he's not as mean as I pictured him to be. Or maybe he is twice as bad as I thought but I'm just being infatuated by him being decent while we were the report and by him singing crocodile rock. He really is a hard piece to read.
Was I gonna let him know that? Absolutely not. The last thing I need right now is Billy to get an even bigger ego, if that's even possible.
A couple of songs later, we arrived at my place.
"Thanks for the ride." I said looking at him after unbuckling my seatbelt.
"Anytime." He said winking at me, which of course, made me roll my eyes. "Are you going to the party tomorrow night?" He asked me.
"Definitely. Besides the fact that I have to make an attendance, I love Halloween. The second-best day of the year." I told him.
"What's the first?" He asked curious.
"My birthday, of course! And third best has got to be Christmas." I said smiling.
"You prefer Halloween over Christmas? Weirdo." He said teasingly.
"What can I say, I love dressing up." I said now smirking at him.
"Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow, princess." He said winking at me again.
"You're really not gonna stop calling me that, are you?" I asked him and he just shook his head smirking at me. "Alright then, see you tomorrow, Cali." I said waking out of his car.
