Since it was late, we ended up crashing at the Wheeler's once again. Karen told me how nice it was to see us stick together, and how much shed missed me around the house and that she always liked me. Sounded like pity talk to me. She flirted with my boyfriend not even a year ago, and now that he was dead, she felt bad about it. Well, too bad.

We were all in the car, on our way to Reefer Rick's annex, to tell Eddie the not so good news that Vecna was in fact behind it all, but sadly for us, he was doing it all in the Upside down, so we couldn't really just go up to him and kill him like Dustin implied we would.

"Not to be a wimp, but can I sit in the car?" Robin asked. "Because this is totally and royally gonna suck."

"It'll be fine." Nancy told her.

"Will it though?" I asked. "Eddie's gonna be crushed." I said sadly.

"At least he can drink himself into feeling better." Steve said raising the six-pack we bought.

"That's what my mom does." Max pipped in.

"Why don't we give it a trial?" Robin asked. "Hey, Eddie. Uh, good news first this time... we got some Henderson approved junk food and that 6 pack you requested. Oh, yeah, and we found Vecna. Bad news is that he's in that other, darker, much scarier dimension, and the gate's closed, so we have no way of getting to him. He's entirely shut off to us, so basically, you're screwed." Robin ranted. "And no, I know that you were already screwed, but now you're doubly, triply screwed."

"Can we not tell him? He'll feel even worse than he feels now." I asked.

"You know we have to." Lucas told me. "But maybe we don't put it like that."

"We're one step closer to finding Vecna." Nancy said. "That's what we say, that's what's important."

"See, girls? Positive spin can make all the difference." Steve said as he ate pringles.

"I can hit you so hard, your head will spin off." I told him.

"Why do you always have to be so aggressive?" Steve asked me.

"Why do you always have to annoy me so much?" I asked him.

We both stared at each other until Nancy started to slow down the car.

"Oh shit." She muttered.

We all looked in front of us and noticed a crowd circling some police cars right in front of Reefer Rick's house.

"Do you think...?" I asked Steve, scared.

"I don't know, Mav... only one way to find out." Steve said as he grabbed my hand, pulling me out of the car with him.

"This way." Nancy said, making us follow her. Once we were next to the news van, we were able to hear the news.

"Reporting a homicide here on the lake." Chief Powell said. Chief Powell... that still sounded weird to me.

I subconsciously grabbed Steve's hand and squeezed it. He squeezed it back as he wrapped his arms around me, trying to make me not think the worse.

"Officer Callahan here and myself, arrived first on the scene. We made our way to the shore of Lover's lake, about 10 yards from this house you see behind me. It was there that we saw the victim," Before he said the name, I felt my heart stop for a second. "an 18-year-old senior from Hawkins High, Patrick McKinney."

I know it's terrible but thank god it wasn't Eddie. I sighed in relief, making Steve caress my arm softly. I knew Patrick, though. He was always doing whatever Billy and then Jason said, but he wasn't a bad dude. When Billy was around, the both of them used to play basketball a lot together.
