"You ready?" He asked.

I met his brother, learned that he is a close friend of my brother and is a general manager in one of our hotel branches. The next day, Caden came to me and said there's one more thing he has to let me know.

I asked him whether this is gonna blow my mind again or not and he said that it might. So I told him to hold his tongue and give me some time to wrap my head around all these coincidences that have been happening recently.

Bukod doon, today was the monthly general meeting with Helios tech for the Nex.In project. There was already a lot of progress on the project. I had a reporting to do and it was an important day, so I didn't want to get distracted.

Ngayong gabi na, tapos na ang trabaho at nakapag-dinner na rin, pwede na naming pag-usapan ang tungkol sa personal life namin. We were in the parking lot of a tall building, nakaupo sa likod ng trunk ng kotse niya dahil tanaw galing doon ang cityscapes.

Huminga ako ng malalim bago siya hinarap at tumango. "Get it on."

"I think we may be fated. Coz our circle of friends – our brothers, Yani and Mischa, even our parents, they all knew each other."

My jaw dropped and I had to blurt out my classic line. "No way!"

He only laughed and continued.

"Both my parents are working under the Hernandez Group too, based in New Zealand. My dad is also part of HG's board of directors."

My eyes widened. How is this all possible? The connections and the coincidences, it's giving me goosebumps.

"All these connections, I'm surprised we never met before the hackathon?"

"I'm more surprised hindi tayo nagkikita sa dami ng events ng Hernandez Group."

"Madalang lang din kasi akong umattend ng events at mas lalong hindi na nakakadalo nung nag-aral ako sa ibang bansa."

Tumango siya. "Teka, malalaki ang companies niyo... pero you chose Nexus?" His eyes squinted. "Maybe you're really a spy?"

I chuckled and playfully rolled my eyes.  "I really want to break free from my family's success. I want to take my own path and make a name for myself."

"I didn't realize you are some big shot person. Ngayon ko lang talaga narealize na parte ka ng Hernandez Group. Anyway, I'm honored that you are here with Nexus, Miss Hernandez."

I rolled my eyes again and groaned. "Stop that please. I don't like telling people that my family owns groups of companies because sometimes they suddenly treat me differently. Like I'm some royalty but really, I'm just a simple girl wanting a peaceful life."

His smile widened and he winked. "Okay then, no royalty treatment, my lady."

I know things are different now, but I guess my emotional scar from my high school experience is deep. After all, me being part of the HG was the reason why I got bullied back in the days.

"Ano pa? Meron pa bang magkakilala sa circle of friends natin? Ilatag mo na lahat para isahan lang pagkagulat ko." Natatawa kong sabi.

At this point, if someone told me that Caden and I used to play with each other when we were toddlers, I wouldn't be surprised anymore.

He took two bottled waters from his trunk and gave one to me. Umihip ang hangin at nilipad ang buhok ko kaya inayos ko iyon kaagad. Pagkalingon ko, nasa may backseat na siya at bumalik na dala ang suit jacket niya.

"Hindi ba ganito ang ginagawa ng mga lalaki sa pelikula?" Sabi niya at ipinatong iyon sa akin.

"Hindi naman ako nilalamig." Sabi ko at nagkibit ng balikat para matangal konti ang suit.
