"- billie was admiring our grandmas' necklace, and she told her she was leaving it to her in her will- and guess what billie said? 'i'm looking forward to that'! that's actually what she said, the dumbass," 

finneas concluded his tale with a laugh. me, maggie, and patrick all joined i while billie rolled her eyes, a playful smile on her face.

"i didn't mean it like that, i was trying to tell her i was grateful," she tried to explain.

i was actually enjoying dinner with the o'connells, they were all really nice.

i felt a buzz in my pocket and i pulled out my phone, glancing at the notification.

when are you going to be home, young lady? it's already 7:30!

my smile dropped and i sighed. "i have to go home now," i told billie.

maggie overheard and a frown came over her face."i thought you could stay the night. it'd be good for you and billie to hang out some more. and complete your project, of course,"

billie smiled widely. "yeah, you should stay over allie. c'mon," she nudged my shoulder.

i bit my lip, looking down at the message again. "i don't know... i think my mom wants me home,"

"i don't want you walking or billie driving in this weather, it's not safe. your mother should understand that," patrick said firmly.

i shrugged. "i'll tell her, i guess," i mumbled, then did that.

while we waited for a response, finneas embarked on another embarrassing story of billie, who eventually slammed her hands on the table and told finneas if he didn't shut up she'd break his nose.

he listened, which to be honest kinda surprised me. he was like, six inches taller than her and way more muscular.

my phone vibrated again. i looked at the message.

"she said it's okay," i told everyone, not mentioning the mini lecture i'd just been given over text.

billie cheered. i liked this side of her much better then her school persona.

"anyway, c'mon allie let's get away from these losers and go have private time in my room," she snickered, then pulled me away from the table swiftly by my arm.

"no sex in my house!" maggie called after us. i heard finneas laugh, but all i could manage was a blush.

"no promises," billie muttered.

i stared at her, shocked.

she saw my expression once we made it to her room. "what? i was just kidding!"

i narrowed my eyes, then shrugged. "what'd you wanna do?"

she sat down on the bed and put her arms out to me, a goofy smile across her lips.

i furrowed my brow, confused.

she sighed, then leant forward to grasp my waist. i gasped as she pulled me onto her lap, then blushed again.

her hands rested on my lower back. "have you watched 'the office'?" she asked.

i nodded. "yeah, i watched it with my family when i was, like, eight or something. i hardly remember anything, though,"

she smiled. "allow me to refresh your memory,"

she laid back, set me down on the side between her and the bed, then reached to the ground to pick up her laptop. she set it on her lap and opened netflix and quickly found 'the office'.

before she pressed play, she pulled up her blankets and beckoned me under, then put her arm around my shoulders and started it.

like i said, i could get used to this.

i think i'm gonna keep writing smaller chapters so i can update more often.

hopefully this doesn't affect the speed of the book or my writing quality.
