fear was my only thought and emotion. when i didn't respond (since i didn't know how), the wolf huffed, rolled his eyes, and stepped forward to pick me up by my scruff.
i was helpless. his teeth were sharp on my neck, but i couldn't do anything about it. i was too paralyzed by shock and fear and, plus, what could i do against both of them? i wasn't even a quarter of their size, and i'd never trained to fight.
i struggled in his teeth, but i couldn't do much because any movement of mine caused me pain.
when i yelped out the first time, they both growled in warning. but the second time must have been the last straw, because the wolf holding me huffed and whacked my head against a tree we were passing, hard enough to knock me out.
i whimpered, thinking of billie in my last moment of consciousness.

january 2, thursday, midnight
i awoke slowly. my ears recovered first, probably because of the excessive shouting happening around me.
"we thought it was dead, alpha! we did as was required by the moon goddess, we swear!" a shrill yet masculine voice cried, sobs breaking their words apart.
"if it survived, the goddess herself must have willed it. i watched my mate drop it in the river themself. i don't understand how it is here, alpha, but there must be a reason," this voice belonged to another calmer, though still shaken, male.
there was silence for a few moments, or at least no talking, as the first was still sobbing. i slowly became aware of heavy weights on all four of my limbs, and that my body was still in dog-form.
"very well, i can see that you are telling the truth. i will not punish you; however, i expect both of you to work harder for the pack," a third and final voice spoke, full of enough authority to make even me cringe against the floor in my half-woken state.the first voices began thanking him, but the alpha cut over them. "and it would appear that your daughter is waking up, so stay and greet her for a few minutes."
at this startling revelation, my eyes flew open. I was laying in a large, circular room with a vaulted ceiling. the whole thing was black and gold, while huge pillars formed another, smaller circle within the room, which i was laying in the centre of. by the pillars, there were some strangely small looking people, their heads bowed, their arms holding trays or else clasped behind their backs. none of them could have been taller than four foot six, but they didn't hold my attention for long.
at the end of the room, a massive throne sat between two of the pillars. on it sat the alpha wolf i had seen walking to meet billie from that cliff where i was caught. in front of him was the couple i must have been hearing, both on their knees. my breath caught in my throat as both of them stood up and faced me.
the larger of the two had mid-length, fluffy black hair. he wore an oversized, tattered army green t-shirt and black jeans. and his eyes... his eyes were dark purple. The set of his mouth the same as mine. and the other had the same natural hair colour as me, the same bright blue eyes.
my parents. my biological parents.
but neither of them looked happy to see me. in fact, they positively glared at me, looking almost scared. of me, their daughter.
"what a happy reunion," the alpha said. that was when i realized the whole conversation hadn't been out loud, but through a mindlink.
if my parents were werewolves then... then so was i! but that didn't make sense, i was so small, i wasn't strong like werewolves.
