Shouta wasn't expecting anything bad to happen today

Shouta wasn't expecting anything bad to happen today. He really didn't. And what happened wasn't even bad, it was actually a very good thing that was happening. In a way. But for Shouta it just brought up all kinds of bad memories. All the memories he wanted to leave far behind.

It had started really innocently. Shouta would never have suspected a thing. Sure, Y/N had seemed kind of withdrawn and worried, but she just sometimes got like that. It wasn't particularly unusual. So he didn't really think anything big was up. But he was wrong about that. Very, very wrong.

He had told himself he'd wait until the day was over to ask her what was up. If she didn't say it herself, then it probably wasn't too bad. True, she sometimes was stubborn and kept things to herself, but she had gotten much better with that over time. And Shouta had gotten better about not bottling things up all the time. He had been better than ever before, but that evening everything came back.

They were cleaning up the teahouse, after closing up and Shouta had almost forgotten that he wanted to ask Y/N about what was wrong, when he noticed her leaning on the broom she had used to sweep the floor. She was looking at him, a small smile on her face, but she looked more pensive than happy. Shouta wasn't quite sure whether he should say anything or not.

"Shou, have you ever thought about us having a family?" Y/N asked him with a sigh, before she continued sweeping the floor. Shouta raised his eyebrows. Where did that come from right now?

"We are a family, aren't we?" Shouta replied, not sure what the hell she was getting at. They hadn't been together that long yet. Sure, it had been a little over a year and they had been through a lot together, but it definitely wasn't really the time to think about kids yet, right? Plus... kids were a sensitive topic for Shouta.

"Well, yeah. But... well, what about children? Would you want children? Like... at some point?" she wanted to know. Shouta looked at her, not sure if she was trying to tell him something or if she just had one of her moods where she questioned everything in her life. It could be either.

"I mean... I haven't really thought about it. I mean, sure at some point. If you wanted to." he answered with a shrug. He really didn't like where this conversation was going. Y/N stopped what she was doing and bit her lip, before looking up at him. It was so obvious that there was something on her mind and Shouta could easily guess what it was, but he didn't even want to think about it.

"Well... what about right now? In the near future?" Y/N wanted to know. Shouta gave her a strange look. What the hell did she mean, right now? In the near future? She couldn't mean that she wanted to try for a child right now. No way. There was nothing going against it, technically, but it just... Shouta thought it was way too early. Plus... he was scared. He was terrified.

Scared that the same thing would happen again. Scared that something would happen to the child, that things would change, that he would lose both of them again... that he would lose either of them... No. No way. He couldn't stand the thought of possibly losing either of them.
