A/N - I'm back! I know it's been a month and all I can say is that I just had no time or motivation to write. I didn't even look at my laptop for two weeks but I'm back so let's get back to this story... the first day continues! Enjoy!

They stepped into the main bullpen outside of the office and what small semblance of conversation that had started up when they walked in stopped. Did no one have anything better to do than watch her every move? Ignoring them as best as she could, Cat and she strode to James' office.
"Hey, do you have the layouts for this issue?" It was like nothing had changed for her, asking for layouts for Cat, like she had his first day there. Only, a lot had changed, more than either of them could have guessed.
James turned to them at the sound of the door opening. "I do." He picked up several pages of layouts. "Here you go. Do you want me to get everyone together for a meeting this afternoon? Or are you going to every department individually?"
Kara frowned and glanced at Cat, who ignored the look for help. "Please, but can you blame me for wanting to come to you myself? We haven't exactly had the time to catch up since I got back." It was true, James was the only one of her friends she had yet to see properly since she and Lena had returned, and although she had an idea as to why she hoped she was wrong. It had been a year, she hoped he wasn't still bitter over everything.
"We haven't, and I'm glad you're back, but can you blame me?" He sighed and Cat pretended to inspect the photos covering his walls. Kara ducked her head. "I mean, seriously Kara. You married my ex-girlfriend without even dating her, not really. All after your future daughter with her appeared from the past because you two screwed up history. And let's not forget the hounding I got after your announcement on live television, the tabloids wouldn't leave me alone for three months."
Okay, that wasn't something anyone had told her. Of course, he wasn't exactly her biggest fan.
She turned to look pointedly at Cat. "You didn't think to mention this to me before we walked over here?"
Cat gaped at her. "What? I thought you knew. I would have thought you looked at everything involving you and Lena in the media since you left, it's what I did when I decided to come back."
Kara pursed her lips. She had her there, she could have read the stories on them in the last year, but it was a lot of stories and they'd been busy. Instead of focusing on that, she turned back to James. "I'm sorry, you're right, you deserved better than you got from Lena and myself with everything that happened. I can't change that, but I can try to make it up to you now that we're back."
Everything about James relaxed at her apology, as though that was all he wanted, was for her to apologise for everything, for not giving him a heads up, for going against the friend code – although, she was pretty sure it was girl code. Either way, he wasn't as tense and smiled at her.
"Thank you, that means a lot. Now, if you two head back to the office I'll tell the department heads there is a meeting in ten minutes." They turned to leave so that James could start notifying people. "Also, you might have an uphill battle with Snapper, he isn't exactly happy about your promotion."
Cat huffed. "Of course, he isn't. He no doubt still sees you as the inexperienced assistant I gave her pick of jobs to."
Kara groaned, that was just what she needed, Snapper Carr deciding he didn't want her in charge. In fact, his ears must have been burning because she heard her name muttered from the other side of the floor by the reporter himself.
"What do you mean Danvers hasn't called a meeting yet? It should have been done the moment she walked in. Typical of an inexperienced and ill-prepared millennial." He criticised.
