"what nothing happened, at all?" valerie questioned me as we walked back to our dorm
"nothing at all," i replied, mostly telling the truth
"so you just stood there saying absolutely nothing to each other?" she asked, giving me a look i knew meant she could tell i was lying.
"pretty much," i smiled unconvincingly back, "anyway tell me about blaise, i want to know everything," which she did, for three hours.
i'd done a full essay by the time she'd finished speaking about blaise, and when she was finally done, everything went quiet.
even if something had happened, which it didn't, he wouldn't have meant it, right?
he was well known for being like that with everyone, hence all the girls in his room last year.
the next day in potions, val had manage to convince blaise to leave all his friends and coke and work with us to make something we were all convinced slughorn had made up in order to use the left over ingredients from last year.
"so," he started, "people are coming to the slytherin common room tonight, you gonna be there?"
valerie looked up hopefully, "do you want me to be there?"
"of course i do beautiful, otherwise i wouldn't have asked."
she smiled from ear to ear, and it became clearer to me that tonight was going to be another quiet one.
they spoke for the whole rest of the lesson, until we all began packing up to leave, "you can come too, you know," blaise said to me, trying to act like i had been invited the whole time.
"thanks, but i don't really want to be a third wheel this early into the year, you two have fun though," i replied, turning to leave.
"mattheo mentioned you," he said just before i walked through the door, but i of course stopped and turned straight back around.
"saying what!" valerie blurted out before thinking about what she was doing.
he laughed, smiling to himself, "don't really remember if i'm honest girls, just that she was looking for you val, amongst other things." he grinned again before leaving.
the entire time she spent getting ready, valerie spoke about every reason she thought mattheo had magically fallen in love with me during the first day back.
i highly doubted it.
as well as her non-stop interrogating me about what happened yesterday, she took ages getting ready to go, but eventually we were back on what felt like our tenth trip to their common room this year already.
the music blasted down the halls and hundreds of people filed into the room before us, and as soon as we were in valerie was off again with blaise.
i stood in a corner of the room, probably looking even more out of place than i felt, and then i spotted mattheo across the room.
he was surrounded by a band of girls, all giggling every time he said something, touching his arm as they threw their heads back with laughter.
a very drunk slytherin boy came over, asking first who i was, before telling me he was "dex, well dexter, but dex."
he stood infront of me, telling me the proper and correct party etiquette before throwing up in a plant pot on the side.
i zoned out if i'm totally honest.
in doing so, my gaze drifted over to mattheo, who, to my surprise, was looking directly at me from across the room.
i looked away, feeling my cheeks flush red, before looking back again to see him still looking, some girl nattering his ear off as he sipped his drink slowly.

bella caught my eye from the entirely opposite side of the room.
she was beautiful, don't get me wrong, but it was more than that.
i don't know what it was but i was intrigued to find out everything about her, but from what i already knew, her being here was very out of character.
she wandered over to the drinks table, coincidentally as i finished my drink, excusing myself from the conversation i'd been stuck in and stood next to her over a bottle of beer.
she said nothing.
her fingers tapped on the table, i stepped sideways towards her, "still stalking me?"
she turned her head and looked up at me, her big eyes searching in mine while she smiled.
"see you met dex," i said turning back to the closest beer can i could find, "seemed to be getting on well."
dexter was forever taking the girls my friends wanted, and i was determined to break his winning streak.
"well, i mean yeah," she started looking down again, "but that's not why i came."
she looked back at me, smiling to herself as she picked up a cup of god knows what that had just been left on the table.
i smiled too, "its good to see you again, even if you are stalking me," i said, also inaudible over the music.
"what?" she replied, laughing, clueless to anything i could've just said.
"i'm happy you're here, is what i'm saying," i said, leaning down to make sure she heard me this time.
"me too." she replied, her eyes once again finding mine, on her tippy toes just to be able to hear what my response would be.
"too loud?"
she nodded, after i repeated myself two more times, "want to go somewhere less loud?"
she nodded as i grabbed her hand, leading her away from the crowds and to my room.
