Are you free tomorrow?
Chryses stared at the message for over a minute, slowly reclining his body to the chair. Not yet contented, he grabbed the bottled water on his desk and took a sip that took forever to finish. Only after that did he finally lift his fingers to type two letters.
No.
And as if it needed a tedious grammar check, it also took him quite some time to press the send button.
It was already in his expectation that her reply would be a lot quicker in comparison, but he hadn't even put his phone down, and a new reply appeared on the chat screen.
What do you think about Sunday?
An unpleasant expression appeared on his usually serene face. Suddenly, the chair doesn't feel as comfortable anymore. He had a sudden inkling that it would feel better to stand somewhere with fresh air, so the tall male abandoned the chair. Mobile tightly clasped in his hands, he walked outside and only stopped after reaching the edge of the pool.
If it's not convenient...-
Really... Things have become awfully annoying. He doesn't like to read her messages anymore. She only ever messages him for two reasons, anyway.
Either to reject him, or if not, she piteously submits as if he's going to tie her up and eat her all at once. He isn't that villainous... Is he?
He lifted his arms and opened his fists, dropping the phone in the water with a plop. It didn't do any damage as it was waterproof, but it was better than having to see those desperate words.
Chryses stared at the sinking metal box that refused to shut down as his eyes slowly dimmed. That's right... Later on, a ghost of a smile started to appear on his lips as he chuckled mirthlessly.
He's worse than a villain.
The wind was unusually strong tonight, hurling his fringe in all directions, but that did not dissuade him from going towards the high balustrade. City lights flashed before his orbs, diluting the amber color to an almost shade of fiery red.
A long sigh escaped his lips as he brushed back his fringe with a fluid motion of his wrist.
Vienna Simmons. He didn't think she was that stupid. He didn't do anything excessive because the results could be dire, but to think she thought him too lightly enough to cause this kind of reaction from Amaryllis.
Haa... If it's going to be like this, maybe he should not have held back. What would be appropriate for a woman like Vienna Simmons..? Something...
Discernible enough to sever ties... but to a reasonable degree..?
The cogs in his brain began to turn, weaving all kinds of pernicious plans, he knew all too well he wouldn't execute.
Lucky Simmons...
He clenched his teeth, feeling very unsated. It's no different from having his hands tied in an isolation cell.
If he couldn't do as much as burning it down, then what use are his resources for? Ever since he can remember, he had never strived to get anything, and likewise, he had never wanted anything. That was because he always knew he could have everything, even without the privileges of his prestigious birth.
Money, recognition, respect, admiration, fame- He was simply born capable of anything, even if he was to start from the dumpsters.
However, the heavens weren't that gracious, after all. It must've been because of his arrogance and cynicism that they wanted to play a terrible prank on him. The first person to ever arouse his desire to possess, and they want to deny him that...
A chilly expression appeared on his facade once he was reminded of the ominous words he should have long forgotten.
The tighter you bind it to you, the more it'll fade and disappear...
Just like that. Right in front of your very eyes... and you will not be able to stop it.
You will lose everything, the most favored human...
It was amusing to hear them. Lose everything? Simply absurd. There was nothing he could possibly lose when he could always acquire it just as quickly. It was a fact that his brain had deduced even without having to solve the probability of it happening. It simply wasn't worth his time and attention. However, as the days rolled by, an unexplainable anxiety started to plague him. An unfamiliar feeling that he hated but grew to love in the end.
It was the first time he felt truly human.
His apathetic nature actually broke down because of her...
Amaryllis Larson.
The girl who saw him by accident. She was so spooked she couldn't even meet him properly in the eye without looking like a flailing rabbit under a butcher's knife.
Watching her tread so carefully around him was amusing, so he thought he should give her a break. He treated her nicely and managed to create a better impression than the last. Truthfully, it wasn't as if he's hiding his true colors. In a way, the two sides of his personality are known among some unfortunate people in the socialite society. He would always act in a manner that would not cause him any inconvenience, and the way he treated the people in the college department was part of his impartial deduction.
The only exception to that was Amaryllis Larson... With her clear blue eyes that would look at him sincerely and her smile that was as refreshing as a spring breeze. If she were wary, she would act so. If she were grateful, she would say thank you. If she were troubled, she'd stutter, searching for pretty words to appease both parties. And if she's angry, she'd stand her ground with an impenetrable determination.
It wasn't this complicated in the beginning. He was merely doing it on a whim, but he didn't expect he'd grow to be very fond of her.
He still can't believe he actually made an effort to gradually close the distance between them. However, it wasn't as easy as she made it look. Because no matter how much he prodded at her walls, they refused to crack.
His friendly treatment was a burden to her. It was getting a lot of negative attention, and he would have solved them easily, but he always felt reluctant. Her serene and kind face would pop up in his head, and his body would freeze.
If Amaryllis Larson saw that other side of him, she would surely run away.
She didn't want trouble, and he was the exact definition of trouble.
So he took a step back.
Thinking back, his timing should have been perfect, but she seemed to have thought he was toying with her when he started to ignore her. Indeed, in her perspective, he might have treated her kindly to rile up their classmates, later on leaving her to fend for herself. But wasn't she the first one to do it? He merely granted her wish. He wasn't one to chase anyone anyway, but it was annoying how it made him feel so frustrated he felt like he'd go crazy.
So she doesn't want to be bothered by him... If that's how it is, then the only way to vent it out was to get rid of those people.
Melinda Stewart.
Harrison, and now...
Vienna.
Where should he throw her away?
