Amaryllis sighed as she tried to find a comfortable position in her bed. Her right arm made it difficult, however, and she ended up shuffling for a long time.
She's worried.
Aunt Rosa doesn't look well. She's rarely home, and when she is, she's always in her room, sleeping.
Feeling a slight pain on her scalp, she moved to grab her hair off her back and yelped at the sharp pain shooting out of her arm from the already minimal and careful movement.
In the end, she decided it was better to get out of bed. And so after expelling a few groans and gasps, her exhausted figure sauntered to the window to get some fresh air. Minutes passed and her eyes soon darted to the driveway of the apartment complex where she spotted a familiar car entering the premises.
It was the one that's been dropping her aunt off recently.
She almost tripped on her desk as she grabbed a random jacket, haphazardly draping it over her shoulders before rushing out. She has to know what's going on today.
Thanks to the elevator, she was able to reach the lobby in under a minute.
"Sir, please let go. I am tired, and I want to sleep." Immediately after exiting the small enclosure, she heard her aunt's leveled voice subtly echoing in the small receiving area. Judging from the volume, she could easily be a few feet away.
Amaryllis gingerly looked up from the jacket on her shoulders to the voice's direction, her eyes widening by the second.
Are pigs flying now..?
Is that a man desperately latching on to her aunt's arm..?
What kind of Hollywood drama is this..? Even the receptionist and the guard are looking at them with the same amused expressions.
Just then, as if sensing a new presence, the stranger glanced towards Amaryllis. Recognition seemed to flash in his eyes, but he was quick to return his gaze to her aunt for Amaryllis to confirm. "Are you really not going to tell me you're being bullied at work?"
The jacket almost fell to the floor as she frantically pulled it over. Bullied..?
Her Aunt?
Rosa let out an exasperated breath as she crudely pulled her arm out of his grip. "Since you already know, what's there to say? Thanks for the ride, but don't do this anymore."
Without waiting for a reply, she spun around irritably, only to freeze at the sight of her niece standing just behind them. "Amaryllis..?" How much did she hear..?
"A-Aunt..! Hi!" The young lady's brows shot up in surprise. "I didn't expect to see you home so early. Is everything alright?" Amaryllis carefully asked, her eyes shifting to the man behind her aunt.
"Oh." Rosa let out a sigh then shook her head, her shoulders visibly relaxing. "Yes... It's nothing. I have a small headache, so the company let me come home to get some rest."
Worry etched on Amaryllis' face as she quickly replied, "I was just on my way to buy some food. I'll drop by the pharmacy and get you some meds."
Her aunt nodded with a smile. "Thank you... Then, I'll head up, first."
Amaryllis was thankful her aunt isn't as sharp as when she's healthy. Otherwise, there's no way she wouldn't notice the slight twitch of her lips.
As soon as she thought of that, her Aunt paused in her tracks and mechanically turned to the man, only showing the indifferent side profile of her face. "Sir, why don't you leave first?"
Amaryllis looked at the receiving end of her aunt's curt dismissal in a dismal manner. He must be her boss. Judging from their interaction, however, their relationship might not be that simple.
