Jesus? Mia and Amaryllis looked at the rough patches of stubble on the man's jaws and the military hairstyle he was sporting. What were his parents thinking when they named him Jesus?
"Ah... Miss Bouvier. Hello." The tall guy towered over everyone even as he bowed his head in greeting. He looked to be two meters tall at most, and his voice rumbled like a lion's roar. "I planned to return with Sir Mariam this morning, but..."
Not only does he know Sam. He also knows Mariam? Both girl's brows wiggled in contemplation.
"Long story short, he destroyed my bedroom door, so I can't let him go without making him work." Honey supplied with an irate sigh.
Samantha coughed and nodded in understanding while Amaryllis and Mia trembled from shock.
Clearing her throat, Sam finally said, "I see... It's only right to take responsibility," before walking towards an empty table. Meanwhile, Amaryllis and Mia followed along, looking more dubious than before.
Both girls continued to stare at her, pressuring Samantha to explain. "Sir Jesus is my former bodyguard. He's retiring soon because of an injury. Anyway, you're already close with Mr. Mariam, right? He's replacing him."
"Mariam is? What a coincidence-Wait..." Mia exclaimed. "He's a bodyguard??"
"So it's true?" Amaryllis' eyes widened.
"Why do you sound surprised? Aren't you guys close?" Sam asked.
"We are, but... It's hard to explain..." Mia shook her head while Amaryllis nodded in understanding.
"He's a very private person. He doesn't trust a lot of people, doesn't he?" Amaryllis gazed at Mia for confirmation.
"That's right." Mia playfully pointed at Amaryllis with her hands, imitating a gun.
"Yes. Like a very wary person. Nevertheless, he's very protective and treats his family very well. It's just that he doesn't talk very well, so people tend to misunderstand his actions. He's changed now, though. However, he's still keen on keeping his distance from most people."
"Wow... You described him perfectly." Mia continuously nodded. "Also, he's the third mystery of our neighborhood." The second declaration was uttered in a low voice as if it was taboo to even mention it.
"Mystery..? Why?" Sam leaned closer, and Mia was about to share when three big plates of various pastries were placed neatly on the table.
"It is bad to talk about a person behind their back." Sir Jesus' voice rumbled aloud, dampening the excitement in Mia's attitude.
"We're just having fun talking nonsense." She chuckled but quickly shut her mouth upon looking at his deadpan face. "Sorry... Sir Jesus is right."
"I'll serve your drinks in a bit." He said, only to get an earful when he reached the counter.
"You're scaring the kids! What if they won't come back because of you, huh?" They could hear Hana's voice all the way to their table, making them stare in amusement at the pair of David and Goliath.
When he came back, he apologized sincerely with a bow, leaving the girls flabbergasted.
"He listens to her so well when he always disregarded me..." Samantha commented. "That bastard..."
Mia sighed. "Sister Hana always had the ability to make other people obedient. After all, she managed to crack Mariam's silence in the past."
"Yes. She's amazing." Amaryllis stared at the cafe owner admiringly.
Samantha's stare lingered on the dainty woman before taking one of the bread and eating it. "Anyway, Amaryllis... What's going on with you and Chryses?"
"Huh?" Mia exchanged glances between the two girls. "Chryses?"
Amaryllis sighed as she grabbed a cupcake. "Well..." She wondered if it's a good idea to tell them. Looking at Mia's confused face, she sighed again.
