After the enema, we were all dismissed to our alcoves, where Sophia was already waiting for me on the sofa. On stage everything was prepared for Cyprus' performance and the cheering of the audience sounded to my ears as the introduction video was shown.
The first countries played their songs, I was so excited and full of anticipation that everything seemed like a rush.
While Portugal was playing, a quiet song that I actually found quite beautiful, Elle got up from the sofa.
"We have to go now," she said and pulled me with her. "Good luck!" shouted Sophia.
I walked down the aisle after Elle, Vic, Ethan and Thomas grinned at me and waved as I passed them, Damiano just smiled warmly but that was enough to calm me down a little.
Backstage, a small in-ear headphone was put in my ear so I could hear myself sing better. I was wired up and outside the song from Serbia started, my excitement was rising.
"Breathe in and out calmly," Elle instructed me, she had put her hands on my shoulders and looked like she was about to throw up herself, "We can do this," she motivated me and herself too.
The last notes of the song from Serbia faded away and I breathed deeply in and out.
"Just don't stop breathing!" Elle called out, then a woman dressed in black and wearing headphones pushed me along."Your piano is being pushed in, stand here," she pointed to a white 'X' just in front of the door leading to the stage.
I could hear the music from outside that accompanied the video that introduced me.
"And go," the woman said and pushed me off, the door opened and I ran onto the stage, my legs led me mechanically to the piano, I sat down, positioned the microphone correctly and closed my eyes, the short video came to an end, all the lights went out and I took another deep breath, then I looked up.
A smile came across my face as I stared at the piano keys, then my fingers began to move towards them as if by themselves, I played the first notes and it felt like I was rehearsing, it was no problem, I knew the song inside out, I had written it myself, then of course I could play it.
Baby really hurt me
Crying in the taxi
He don't wanna know me
Says he made the big mistake of dancing in my storm
Says it was poisonI sang the first verse and it felt natural. When I opened my eyes and turned my head from the piano to the audience, I saw the little lights of the audience's mobile phone torches.
Actually, the whole hall was dark, with only dim white light shining on the stage, but the torches bathed it in a brighter light.
It looked like a starry sky and I couldn't believe how beautiful it was.So I guess I'll go home
Into the arms of the girl that I love
The only love I haven't screwed up
She's so hard to please
But she's a forest fireI do my best to meet her demands
Play at romance, we slow dance
In the living room, but all that a stranger would see
Is one girl swaying alone
Stroking her cheekMy fingers continued to fly over the keys, I only ever looked briefly, my eyes were open, unlike when I usually played.
Although it was one of the most personal songs I had ever written, I was not afraid, I was no longer intimidated by the crowd listening to my voice alone. I had become part of that crowd, we had merged into a beautiful night sky and I was the moon amidst all the twinkling stars.
They say, "You're a little much for me
You're a liability
You're a little much for me"
So they pull back, make other plans
I understand, I'm a liability
Get you wild, make you leave
I'm a little much for
everyone
