I wanna be the first man you look at tonight
Wanna be stuck in your head and make you go wild
I wanna drive you till the morning light and
I won't leave you alone in the middle of the night

Damiano's voice sounded from the speakers of the car I was driving into town.
Thomas had given me permission to go shopping in his car, as the others went to the interview in Damiano's car.

Sophia had stayed home to look after Chili while I went shopping, but she had written me a list of things she needed because she had forgotten almost half of her things at home.

I drove with the windows down, the air conditioning unable to cope with the hot temperatures of the day, and I enjoyed the sun on my skin, which I had so rarely felt in England.
Italy was even more impressive during the day. It was as if the light was completely different from England and I immediately fell in love again with the sight of the bright stone buildings and green ivy vines clinging to them.

When I turned onto the road that led along the sea, I was dazzled by the sun reflected in the turquoise water. I put on my sunglasses and tried not to be distracted too much by the raging waves, but to look at the road in front of me.
The sound of the crashing waves was drowned out by the music, but I still felt the sea next to me like an inescapable obstacle.

I wanna hold you in my arms tonight
For your love I'll do whatever you want

I sang along with the lyrics, which gave me goose bumps - after all, it was my boyfriend who was singing these words - and looked at the road in front of me, which seemed to stretch endlessly.
When I got up earlier, the band had already left, Sophia was still asleep and I had had to wake her up.

Driving in Thomas' car was strange. I had learned to drive in Italy, but after four years of driving on the left in England, I had to get used to the traffic rules in Italy again.

Luckily I arrived in the city centre unscathed, I parked next to a big supermarket and got out, locked the car and reached for my bag with Sophia's list and the list of the others.

The asphalt of the car park was heated by the sun, I felt it through the thin sole of my trainers.
I grabbed a shopping trolley and entered the air-conditioned supermarket. While I strolled through the wide aisles and kept throwing groceries into the trolley, I listened to the other shoppers talking in Italian. Mostly the conversations were boring, mundane things like a discussion about dinner, but it was pleasant to hear the Italian.

Although Italian was not my first language, I liked it much better than English. Sophia and I had often spoken in Italian in England as well, simply because we liked the language more and only the least understood each other there, which had always been handy in public places.

When Zitti e Buoni was playing on the radio in the supermarket I had to grin, since the ESC Måneskin had become totally popular all over Europe and were in the charts almost everywhere.

I hummed along with the song and pushed my car through the rows, I got everything for Sophia and was already back at the car half an hour later. My wristwatch showed me that I was only an hour away from home, it would be at least two hours before Damiano and the others came back from the interview and I didn't want to be bored at home all the time.

I decided to start the engine, I would unload the groceries at home first and then walk from home to somewhere, I didn't know exactly where.

Sophia was in the garden when I arrived and put the bags in the house, so she didn't even notice me.

I left my wallet and keys at home, because someone would be there to open the door for me anyway, then I walked in the direction of the sea. On foot, it could take half an hour at most to get there.
