I hadn't been able to sleep properly all night because I had had to think about what it meant with Damiano. Sure, he didn't have much time and had to devote to the tour, but it was still stupid to be able to talk so little to each other and the few evening calls were usually only short or felt strange.
Nevertheless, it was clear to me that if he came to London right now and we spent time together in person, everything would be exactly the same, everything would be fine, so I didn't really need to worry.
However, I had always thought about things too much and that's why my stomach tightened while I turned around and around on the soft mattress, trying to get rid of the thoughts and shut out the outside world to finally find peace.
The sun was already rising when I finally fell asleep, not because I relaxed and let my thoughts fall away, but because I was too exhausted and my head was already starting to hurt.
I knew there was no solution to our problem except to hope that Damiano would come home soon, and that was disappointing, because we would inevitably be separated from each other again and again, and if things went so badly every time we were away from each other, we would eventually get tired of it.
I only woke up at noon because Sophia was banging pots in the kitchen, I heard her swearing and wondered what my sister was doing there while I rubbed my eyes and stretched. The sun was shining in through the window and it surprised me, the weather was surprisingly nice by English standards.
I stayed in bed for a few seconds until I heard another loud clatter and sat up with a groan, my mobile was upside down on the bedside table but I didn't reach for it, first I wanted to see what was going on with Sophia before I dealt with the Damiano thing, he had certainly tried to call me, or at least leave me messages.
"What the hell," I muttered as I entered the kitchen and saw the dark smoke rising from the pan on the cooker, Sophia waving a kitchen towel and grinning sheepishly at me. "What is that?", I pointed at the charred remains of some food in the pan and frowned, next to it was a pot of water.
"That was scrambled eggs, at least until it charred and then started to burn," Sophia shrugged and my eyes went round as a ball, "It burned?", I asked in shock. She nodded sheepishly, "Don't worry, I handled it all very confidently," she said.
"By pouring water on it?", I asked.
"Exactly"
"And you didn't realise that you should never use water to put anything out on the cooker? You should have covered the pan and smothered the flames, stupid!" I cursed and shook my head."That explains the flash fire," Sophia muttered and I groaned loudly, "You're really beyond help," I then said, but somehow I also had to laugh because it was just so typical of Sophia.
"I wanted to make you breakfast, so don't complain," Sophia laughed now too and I rolled my eyes as I tousled her hair.
"Now let's clean up the mess first, then we'll go eat in town together, all right?" I said and she nodded eagerly. Together we cleaned the kitchen, then I took a shower and changed, only reaching for my phone when I was done.
No missed calls
1 new messageI unlocked the screen and prepared to see a message from Damiano, but it was only Emma, who had replied because I had invited her to dinner for the weekend. Why didn't Damiano get in touch?
Sighing and resigned, I tried to call him to ask if everything was OK, but like last night, it went straight to voicemail, something was wrong.
"Sophia, have you texted Ethan today?", I asked loudly towards the hallway and immediately received a reply from my little sister, "Sure, why?"
"Damiano isn't answering his phone and we had a strange phone call last night," I explained the short version.
