His fingers ran through my hair and I smiled when he nudged my nose.
The bedroom windows were open and I could see the night sky outside in front of us.
The stars twinkled in the sky, here over the sea they were even more visible than in the city.
I snuggled closer to Damiano and kissed his bare chest, light as a feather.
"This is how I always imagined it," I murmured against his chest.
"What?" asked Damiano.
"After we broke up, that's how I always imagined the future you described to me then. Lying in bed with you, falling asleep in your arms and waking up the next morning still lying in your arms. No worries, no problems. I dreamt about it too," I confessed in a whisper and Damiano pressed a kiss to the top of my head.
"I love you, Coraline", he whispered.
"I love you too", I said softly.
And I closed my eyes to fall asleep with his smell in my nose and the feel of his body against mine.
Tomorrow I would wake up and he would still be there, for the rest of my life.
