Chapter 7

RACES POV

As always the morning bells woke me up . My heart fluttered when I realized Y/N was my girl. I got up and made my way over to Y/N. "Y/N, sweetness, wake up" I cooed in her ear while kissing her forehead. Her beautiful E/C eyes fluttered open as she kissed my lips which caught me off guard. She sat up and said "Morning Racer" she beamed at me. "Knock it off loveboids would ya" I hear Jacks voice as he woke up Albert and Jojo.

Y/N and I made our way downstairs before we headed off to newsie square. "Y/N you'se selling wit me again" Jack yelled "Alright then". Y/N bid me farewell but before I knew it I was chasing after her. "Y/N" She turned to me "Tonight meet me at the lodging house at 7:00 for that date I promised you." "Where are we going?" She asked smiling sweetly. "It's a surprise" I said as I pecked her cheek and ran to back to newsie square. 

"Finally Race what were you doing? Having a tea party?" Jojo asked slightly annoyed. I placed my money down on the counter "50 papes please, and No Jojo I have my first date with Y/N" I beamed. "Racers got a girlfriend?" Morris asked. "Racer you should bring her here once she gets bored of you" Oscar said with a smirk "Were much better than any one of you sewer rats" Oscar said. I scoffed as Morris handed me my papes. "Lets go Racer you took forever and now were loosing precious selling time" said Jojo. 

7:00 could not come fast enough I was very ready for tonight. We finished selling around 4:30 which was very late for us. When we got back to the Lodging house I waited around anxiously until that magical time came around and there was a knock on the lodging house door.

Y/N POV

I knocked on the door to our room and there was Race he didn't even hesitate to kiss me and then he grabbed my hand and we were out the door. He wrapped his arm around my waist as I asked yet again where we were going. "You'll see when we get there" Race said smirking. We stopped at a sandwich shop as bought me and himself one. 

We talked and laughed until we made it to an abandoned building. I looked at him confused which he saw. He led me up the fire escape. And we climbed until we reached the top.

Race helped me at the last step and brought me over to the edge to reveal a beautiful sun set over the Manhattan Skyline. "Woah" I said with Awe in my voice. "So I'm guessing you'se like it?" Race said hopeful "I love it" and pecked him on the cheek. We found a few chairs at the top and brought them over to the edge. As we sat and ate Race told me he had found this place when he was new on the job. He had yelled a headline that was not in the paper and someone got mad and chased him. I laughed at Race's story as he put his arm around my shoulders which I leaned on to him. 

The sun eventually set and we made our way down the fire escape which was more difficult than I imagined since we were in the dark. But we made it down to the ground thankfully. Unfortunately it was late and the only people out at this time were myself, Race,  drunk creepy men and worse the Delanceys. 

"Hello again" Morris snickered. "Ahhh so Racer really did get the girl" Oscar said. "Hey Morris what do you say we get Racer for what he did last time" Oscar's face turned into a wicked grin as he was staring at me. "Sound like fun" said Morris. Race's grip on my waist tightened. "Well Then" Oscar was cut off by Morris punching Race square in the Face. "RACE" I yelled as he pushed me out of the way. We were not far from the lodging house at all, maybe a block or two away. I started sprinting as I had Oscar right on my tail. 

I burst through the lodging house door. "HELP" I screamed as the boys turned to face me "MORRIS IS BEATING UP RACE AND OSCAR IS OUTSIDE TRYING TO GET ME" I yelled as there was a pounding on the door I hid behind Albert as he went to get the door. When Oscar saw all the newsies looking at him fuming he took off. "COME ON WE NEED TO GO GET RACE" I yelled and a group of newsies followed me to where Race was. 

Morris and Race were fumbling around on the ground each trying their hardest to beat the lights out of each other as Finch and Mush pushed him off and Jojo helped him stand up. "GET OUTA HERE" Jack yelled and both Delanceys ran. 

"ARE YOU OKAY" I asked as I ran to Race giving him a hug. "Yeah nothing I'se neva had before" Race said as a few newsies chuckled. We made our way back to the lodging house as Specs helped clean up Race. 

"Y/N are you okay" Albert asked as he hugged me. "Yes" I responded as Race walked in to give me a kiss. When Albert saw he got up and left I was confused but didn't care too much because I was just happy Race was okay. 

"Let's go to bed Y/N" Race said "Yeah good Idea" I said as we headed upstairs and slipped into our beds. I gave Race a kiss on his forehead before I eventually passed out in my bed.
