"Rosalind has been put on trial and is no longer our problem. I have spoken with Queen Luna and that situation is in hand. I am glad to be back and am glad everyone is safe, however, lessons will begin as usual with the only exception being in the difference of teaching styles."
A cheer rose around the room before the students started filing out of the courtyard. An overwhelming sense of guilt filled her senses as the fiery redheaded changeling she had met for the first time in the otherworld passed her. The girl didn't even look in her direction.
"Bloom."
At the sound of the mind fairy's voice, the younger fairy turned still not meeting the eyes of her teacher.
"Could you come by my office in an hour or so please."
The fairy nodded and uttered a quick agreement before hurrying away.
Looking up at the clock on her wall, the headmistress sighed. When she had said an hour or so she hoped an hour was heard, not an hour and a half. She was pulled out of her thoughts as she sensed a presence behind her office door.
"Don't dawdle."
It opened and the fire fairy entered.
"You asked for me to be here Miss. Dowling."
"I did Bloom, take a seat."
The teenager sat in her seat avoiding eye contact and fiddling with her sleeves.
"You have been acting strange since Rosalind was... shooed away. Is everything quite alright?"
"I'm fine."
The headmistress leaned back in her chair to observe Bloom, allowing the teenager to squirm under her gaze before she spoke again, a small smile on her face.
"I have worked in this school for sixteen years as headmistress, I was a teacher long before that. I know when students are lying to me, especially my fairies. You all have a tendency to let your magic go haywire. So when I pull you into my office to ask if you are ok, I'm not asking you to tell me the socially polite answer of 'fine'; I'm asking what is wrong?"
"I just... I can't help but feel like all of this is my fault. I brought Rosalind here and she..."
The redheads eyes moved to stare at the white scar that ran down her teachers neck, showing where Rosalind had injured her. The mind fairy's hand moved to her neck in an obvious false pretence of fiddling with the chain around it to cover the line.
"Yeah well, I guess I don't need to tell you."
"Bloom, you couldn't have known."
"But I should have, I should have known. I should have just listened to you but I decided to be a brat."
"We established that in our last meeting Bloom, what happened after that was Rosalind, not you."
"But..."
"Would you blame Stella for what she did to Ricki after you learnt how badly her mother treated her?"
"No, but that was..."
"Or Beatrix after the upbringing she's had?"
"No, I mean..."
"Would you blame Musa for leaving Sam in pain for longer than necessary when he was hurt because she was scared what happened to her mother would happen again?"
"No, but..."
"Or would you blame professor Harvey for leaving your friends in their suit after they caused him to become panicked about their safety? Do you think Sky still blames headmaster Silva for what he did to Andreas now that he's gotten to know his father?"
"Of course I wouldn't, but all that is different."
"Is it? Really?"
"yes it..."
"Would you blame me for aster dell?"
A panicked look crossed the younger womans face.
"Of course not, you didn't know. Rosalind lied, she manipulated you. Only telling you half truths, making you believe something was a worthy cause when it was only for her own good and..."
She stopped short, noting the almost self-satisfied smirk on her teachers face and sighing.
"But I'm only saying what you would say aren't I?"
"It took me so many years to come to terms with what I had done, what Rosalind had tricked me into. Don't let the regret take over many years of yours aswell. Rosalind hurt people for her own gain, it is not your fault."
A smile crossed the fire fairy's lips.
"Thank you Miss. Dowling."
"My door is always figuratively open."
