Regius had been pulled into a meeting with his manager to discuss the terms of his new contract.

The Eagles weren't playing about keeping him on and as much as he wanted his father here with him, they were both not speaking to each other.

So he'd allowed Declan to bring him to some La Nuit restaurant that didn't serve the kind of beer he drank and half of the words on the menu he couldn't pronounce.

To entice him to sign the new contract quickly. Something Regius never did.

Only to be surprised when he looked up from his pasta that tasted like a meal he could make at home, to see his girl with huge black shades on walking to a table at the back of him.

He knew Josh Jacobs anywhere and from the moment the man wrapped his arms around Mya's waist. Regius' blood boiled.

He knew the man from USC, they'd played together on the same team and even opposing teams during training in college and one thing he knew about Josh was that he came from money.

He was an entitled prick that felt like he could claim whatever he wanted.

Right now it looked like his target was Mya and Regius would be damned if he'd ever compete with another man for Mya's attention.

What he didn't expect to hear was the man talking about how good they would look together or the amazing, Regius wouldn't even allow his mind to go there.

Mya stared at him as he stared at Josh.

"Regius, what a surprise."

Josh got to his feet to dap the man as Regius returned the greeting.

"Just having lunch with my manager."

He nodded in Declan's direction.

"When I noticed you out with my girl."

Josh choked on his own saliva as he coughed.

"Your girl?"

Regius nodded as he placed his hand in Mya's.

"Is she working? Is this an interview? I'd hate to interrupt."

Regius could see the man's jaw clench as he shook his head.

"No just old friends, catching up."

Regius nodded.

"Okay, I'd leave you two to it then. Baby?"

Mya stared at him with wide eyes as he bent forward and placed a kiss on her lips.

"Call me when you're done."

She nodded as he walked back to his table, a grin on his lips.

He couldn't believe he'd wiped that smug smirk off of Josh's lips.

He took the contract from Declan.

"I have to read it. Give me a few days and we'd discuss."

As he began to walk out of the restaurant, his phone rang.

Regius stared at the unknown number before placing the device to his ear.

"Hello?"

"Regius, hey this is Jomauld. Mya's uncle, Jeston gave me your number."

Regius paused.

Why did the man want his number?

"I was thinking maybe we could meet up and shoot hoops some time when you're free. I noticed our techniques are similar."

Regius couldn't help but wonder if this was one of the luxuries Josh was trying to reclaim. To have a retired pro athlete randomly ring your phone to shoot hoops.
