Carter wouldn't leave Merida's side at all. We tried telling him that she's gonna be alright, but he won't listen!

"Carter I'm alright, you can go and get food then come right back up here." She said, gesturing him to go downstairs.

"No. I'm gonna stay here and protect you." He said getting on the bed and laying down next to her.

"Protect her from what?" I said firmly. Carter just stayed quiet. "From the world." He said looking at me in my eyes.

"I'll go with Jack then." I muttered then walked out the room.

Shawn

"No ones going on a run. We're going to find the others! We can't just sit here, helpless! We have to at least try." I told them, standing up from the couch.

"When are we going though?" Gilinsky asked. "Tomorrow. We all need to be well-rested for the journey." I said, going upstairs to Merida's room.

"How's your arm?" I asked, entering the room, sitting on a dirty tie-dyed bean bag.

"Painless now I guess." She said chuckling. "You think you could be able to hold a gun now." I said. "I'm a redneck. Nothin' stops us from fighting." She said, smiling afterwards.

"You're a fighter. We need more of those on our group. So how would you like to join?" I asked smiling with a grin.

She laughed and nodded. "Carter! Wake up!" She said shaking him. Carter shot up and groaned.

"I wanna sleep!" He whined. "Let's sleep downstairs. We'll invite Shawn to the party!" She said with a big smile.

"You sure you're ready to get up?" I asked her. "Of course!" She said and threw her legs to the edge of the bed. She slowly shimmied of the bed and placed her feet on the ground.

She got up and tumbled into my arms. We both laughed. I helped her regain her balance and she walked out the door with her left hand in mine.

"Let's set up the place." I said moving the couch in front of the door.

"Get the blankets and cover the windows so it could be dark." Merida said grabbing a black and grey cloth.

Carter grabbed it from her hand and hung it on the windows.

After we finally covered all the windows, Merida ran up the stairs and got blankets and pillows.

We sat down on the couch and started to talk about the others.

"So how many people were you with?" Merida asked. "We were with like 17 people. A couple of them died." Carter said blankly.

"Wow. So how many girls are there?" She asked curiously. "There were 7 but 2 died." I said sadly.

"Oh. I'm sorry." She said, putting her head down. "Don't worry. We didn't like one of them anyway." I told her truthfully. "But I don't think her dad knows."

"Who killed her?" She asked curiously.

"We think it was someone with searching the building for people to kill. One of our best friends, Matthew, found her on the ground, surrounded by her own blood." Carter said blankly.

"He told me. He told me that Charles is probably gonna blame him for not telling him that his daughters dead."

Charles

"Look. There's a neighborhood full of houses. You think Jess could be in one of those houses?" I asked, looking back at them hopefully.

"Probably." Matt muttered. We split up into groups to cover more houses.
