"No man thats bogue." Cowboy was telling Fox. "We can't keep walking through everyone's turf like this." Vermin joined in. "We're gonna get japped!"
"Listen." Swan interrupted. "I'm war chief, and I say there's no other way. The train's closed off, so we have no other choice." He said.
They quieted down. You and Ajax met up with them, looking up to see a couple boys on a rooftop, and a couple others on the opposing side.
"We've had it" Fox said. "Yeah I've made 'em." Swan said. "Two there, and one there." He pointed to where you were looking. One of them wolf-whistled down to you, and you scowled at him. You heard Ajax next to you growl under his breath. "I think they just made us," Fox said. "You recognize them?" Swan asked.
"Yeah, they're the Orphans all right. So far down they ain't even on the map. Real low class." "Numbers?"Swan asked. "Full strength maybe thirty." said Fox. Your stomach dropped; that was a lot of muscle. "That's a lot more than eight." Vermin to your left said. He was thinking the same as you. Ajax on your other side though, felt differently. "Not if they're wimps, and I'm sick of this running crap." You looked over at him, smiling at his confidence; It relaxed you. "Come on, this way." Swan said. You all followed him down the street.
You veered around a corner and came to a stop. You could see a group of Orphans and their leader a few apartments down; waiting for you. You all grouped around forming a circle, talking quietly to yourselves. "No matter what he says, nobody lip off, nobody get hot. I'm gonna see what I can do." Swan said firmly, looking at you all carefully. "When did you turn into a fucking diplomat?" Ajax jibbed over your shoulder. "Yeah, you ain't exactly the state department type." Vermin mocked too. Swan ignored them, looking at Fox. "Youre with me." He turned to leave, but cowboy stopped them. "Wait." They turned to face him. "What about Red? She can't get stuck in a middle of a brawl if this turns south." He said. You studied him for a moment, appreciating the thought.
"No need to worry about me, I've handled my fair share of rough situations. I can get out." You said, looking back at Swan. He nodded at your decision, while Fox rolled his eyes at you. "Okay, let's go." Swan said to Fox, turning up around to face the Orphans.
Swan and Fox had been talking to the leader for awhile. He was a gangly skinny dude, with wavy jet-black hair and a lazy eye. The rest of you were left barely in earshot, so you watched as they talked.
Finally Swan turned around and nodded at your group, giving you the go ahead to walk through. You waited behind, as you watched the boys take the lead, reaching Swan and Fox. You walked up to the back of the boys, listening as a mocking chicken cluck came from an outfit above. You all looked up.
It was a girl around your age. She had long wavy black hair, a floral maroon skirt, and a light pink tank top. She had pink lips that went with her dark olive skin.
"Ah cut it Mercy!" The orphan leader fumed at her. You frowned at her, watching her smile as she looked at your group of boys. "You know what that is don't ya?" Ajax asked, in front of you with a smirk. You felt your cheeks burn hot. "Yeah, trouble" Cowboy said, mirroring the same smile.
"Those vest are real nice."Mercy took a step towards you lot. "Lighten up Mercy, stop lookin' for trouble now." Another Orphan said, next to the leader.
"Should have slapped your mouth the minute you opened it!" The Orphan snapped at her again. You grinned at this. "So who stopped ya?" She snapped back. But her face softened again, as she looked at Swan in the front. "Come on, give me one. Just one. I just want one vest." She pouted flirtatiously. Swan shook his head.
"You can get another one man." She said cooly. "No chance." Swan said, getting bored. She huffed, looking at the leader of the Orphans. "Are you just gonna let an army walk through here anytime they feel like it? How is that gonna look?" She pestered. He frowned. "Get lost." He said. "You know, pretty soon every gang is just gonna boogie right in, soldier right through. I'll tell you, some man you are." She said, rolling her eyes at him. There was a pause. You knew what she was doing. She wanted a fight.
